I know blu-ray is supposed to be infinitely better, but
1) its way more expensive
2) the players arent all that great
3) who is really gonna notice on the tv sizes we have now.

Well blu-ray & hd-dvd are equal as far as picture/audio quality. They hold exactly the same format video & audio, they just store that video differently on the disc.

Blu-ray comes in 25GB & 50GB, HD-DVD comes in 15GB, 30GB, & 51GB (fairly new). The only real difference physically is that HD-DVDs can do a combo format, and have the standard DVD on the other side of the disc, whereas Blu-ray cannot. As far as those sizes, it just depends on the length of the movie, sound tracks, and amount of extra features which size they use. The video & audio bit-rate will be exactly the same though. All HD-DVD & Blu-rays use VC-1, MPEG2, or AVC for video encoding.

I'm just hoping blu ray discs don't become defunct like sony's umd movies.

NO SHIT

I checked their "catalog" and it was maybe 100 movies total, 96 of which were shitty teen comedies released in the last 5 years.

I happen to like watching movies on the PSP. Better picture quality than my TV (not much of an accomplishment) and better sound quality (again, not much of an accomplishment). Still good for roadtrips though

That Onkyo player he mentioned has been scrapped, but a pretty good article.

This was virtually the same format war that happened for DVD. It was Sony/Philips "MultiMedia Compact Disc" vs Toshiba's "Super Density disc", and it was Toshiba's SD disc which won out and became DVD.

Apparently there's a rumor from high places that Warner will go Blu-ray... bleh

At this point I honestly don't care which format wins out, I just wants me some HD movies!

Fuckmuffin. That word and muffintop are the two coolest things I've ever seen on this place. What would happen if a fuckmuffin fucked a chick with a muffintop? That's a lot of muffins. A lot of motherfuffin muffuckins.
