I just love how psychologists, journalists, interior designers, IE people who are essentially scientifically illiterate somehow magically know enough about atmospheric fluid dynamics, atmospheric chemistry, geology and climate because of what the popular opinion of the US mainstream media is

would my professor whos a PhD in environmental science count? Depends, what is the specialty? Is it atmosphereic fluid dynamics or fucking plant life habitat in arid desert climates? The reason I ask is because I work with two people who have "environmental" degrees, one in biology and one in engineering and they're both complete morons. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

ozone on the surface is bad and is created by things like car emissions ozone on ground bad = smog ozone in atmosphere = necessity - CFC's specifically the breakdown to CL destroys it people just dont know enough! there was a medieval warm period, there was the little ice age. those were caused by natural occurances (huge volcano eruption for one) you make a chart... chart the occurances of natural disruptions to weather... over that chart you lay the warming trend... there is a huge discrepancy... create another layer that shows our increase in pollution, burning of fossil fuels = they line up. thus showing the increase is not natural. thats where the "hockey stick" comes from the BBC has an amazing documentary about it edit: the documentary is called Meltdown. the host is paul rose and its a global warming for dummies with lots of scientific backup of course but made easy to understand For one, we don't know why there was a Medieval warm period. Volcanoes do not cause global warming, they contribute to CO2 emissions but overall they cause cooling due to ash reflecting the sun. I am not sure what you mean "people just don't know enough". Your broad sweeping statement that ozone on the ground is smog is actually false. Smog, for the most part is particulate consisting of NOx and volatile organic compounds. Only sometimes does it actually contain ozone. Oddly enough, volcanoes release a lot of ozone. People just don't know enough. I may not know weather, but I know pollution. atmospheric science, climate, and meteorology i believe shes my atmospheric science professor and i know shes done a lot of extensive climate research Is she the old quack? She was my atmo professor... -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

she did research about weather change from a big old boat! then they got that information and presented it to the government and stuff! and then the government ended up not doing anything with it but paid a bunch of economic professors to tell the world their opinions on global warming!
something like that (i said climate change - volcanoes for one. they block solar radiation thus cooling) seriously if a person doesnt believe in global warming they dont have reputable opinions. it is just that obvious -------------------- Little monkeys making money

I merely said that I do not subscribe to the 'talking head' opinion that we are speeding up the process to the point of self-destruction and that the ice caps are melting because I drive a car that doesn't get enough mpgs. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Ground-level ozone, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide and carbon monoxide = smog Wrong. Ground-level ozone is not present in all smog, nor all pollution. It is present in places where the ozone is trapped, like Tehran and Mexico City. Take for example Houston. We have ozone level warnings and air quality warnings. They distinguish the two because the ozone has to be trapped to become "ground-level" and this only happens within the confines of the downtown buildings. The smog you see around the Galleria, that's actually extremely low in the area of ground-level ozone, whereas the smog downtown is high in ozone and gets worse with heat (part of the reason they built the tunnel system). Test, when you have a free week, I'll take you to a U.S. coal fired power plant and if you have a passport, a Chinese plant, you can look at the ozone levels and sulfur and CO2 output and see the truth with your own eyes. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |
