again, i do not think the actual lack of airing of many popular tv shows will have an effect at all on the general public.
the effects i am concerned about are the microeconomic change that may impact L.A. and N.Y., and more importantly, how much of a shift we will see to online media sources. |

i feel bad that writers get the shitty end of the stick a lot. like writing for a hit show/writing a hit movie and they have trouble paying the rent each month for their shitty houses near LAX while actors and producers can play find the 1000 dollar bill in the sea of millions. But thats never going to change because for sure the actors guild will say they are the most important part of the process!
hollywood sucks they should all go on strike. the strike still hasnt affected me because i dont watch actual tv and my Project Runway isnt getting affected because of "reality tv" - for now. if cobert and jon stewart really cared about the "little people" they would cut their salaries and share the wealth. they are the producers of their own show -------------------- Little monkeys making money

That would benefit the writers on those shows, but they still might not return to work. The effectiveness of a strike depends largely on solidarity and union members may be reluctant to act independently.

they could have done that before a strike ever happened thus possibly reducing the risk of one. and if people like them in general did that the entire world would be a better place! like no pharmaceutical CEO earning 200 mill. while draining the public.
despite peoples belief its not necessary for anyone to earn that much money -------------------- Little monkeys making money

they could have done that before a strike ever happened thus possibly reducing the risk of one. Um, doubtful. The WGA strike is against the AMPTP. Even if individual producers made concessions, that would be very unlikely to change the result of the negotiations as a whole. -------------------- |

i have no idea what that means i thought one big part of the strike was about money. so then if the writers had the money they want there would be less call to strike? The AMPTP is the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. They were negotiating the new contracts with the Writers Guild. Part of the problem with a collective bargaining agreement is that everyone gets the same minimum deal. Colbert and Stewart could have offered their writers a better deal, something above and beyond the contract minimums, but that would have done jack to fix the WGA contract itself. Moreover, the union writers are most likely contractually obligated to stop work while the strike is going on, so individual producers offering deals still wouldn't solve the short-term problem. Make sense? GOD unions are retarded. This post has been edited by Spectatrix: Nov 13 2007, 10:42 PM -------------------- |

thanks for deleting my posts asshats. i don't attack cathryn in every post, only the ones where she says something completely stupid. continue to delete them and i'm jsut going to contine to requote it.
QUOTE they could have done that before a strike ever happened thus possibly reducing the risk of one. seriously, pure genius. "avoid causing the strike in the first place and the strike never would have happened" brilliant deduction. -------------------- |

if cobert and jon stewart really cared about the "little people" they would cut their salaries and share the wealth. they are the producers of their own show i would like to point out that most producers really have little control over the writer's pay. i think a majority of these decisions come down from network execs. A recent reminder of this from several major producers. http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-stri...dlines-business |
