And people wonder why the general public hates Apple and thinks they're elitist douchebags
http://www.engadget.com/2007/10/27/apple-r...-em-to-two-per/ What kind of assclown heads up their marketing team? 1. You can only buy Apple products at Apple stores, not at Best Buy or anywhere like that. I, for one, don't have a fucking clue where an Apple store is. And excuse me for being too lazy to look. I'll go and buy a competitor's product at Best Buy where I know they'll be sold. I shouldn't have to go out on a scavenger hunt to buy a mass produced cell phone or MP3 player 2. Only Apple would try to limit the number of products their customers can buy. How is that even remotely financially intelligent? 3. Only Apple would refuse to accept cash. While not illegal (I had to check because for some reason I thought it was illegal to not accept US currency), it screams "I'm a surly asshole, take your business elsewhere" 4. What the hell is an "unauthorized reseller"? 'Scuse me, Apple, but when I buy something and legally own it I can resell it whenever I want and for whatever price I want. Have fun trying to stop me. Seems they're trying to create a false sense of demand and hype for the Iphone by severely limiting availability and making it difficult for people to get ahold of one. Stellar business model. They're either elitists or complete dipshits, take your pick. I have nothing against the Iphone itself. I've played with one and it's pretty nifty once you figure out how to use it. But I've seen probably 500 people using cell phones since this summer and maybe 10-15 had an Iphone. Maybe Apple is just scared that if they made them easy to buy, they're realize there isn't as much demand as they thought. Awesome quote from someone on Digg's discussion board: You know what? Im a long time Mac user, but fuck Apple. Im so disgusted on how they are handling the iPhone. Seems like its weekly they are doing something else to piss people off with this god damn thing. I hope Steve Jobs chokes on that fucking phone of his. Maybe he'll remember that he once ran a computer company. -------------------- ![]() ![]() |

not accepting cash has to be against the law as cash is legal tender in the united states, expect a class action lawsuit if no one starts a lawsuit will and i should start one Wrong (though I admittedly thought the same...) http://www.treas.gov/education/faq/currenc...al-tender.shtml QUOTE Question: I thought that United States currency was legal tender for all debts. Some businesses or governmental agencies say that they will only accept checks, money orders or credit cards as payment, and others will only accept currency notes in denominations of $20 or smaller. Isn't this illegal?
Answer: The pertinent portion of law that applies to your question is the Coinage Act of 1965, specifically Section 31 U.S.C. 5103, entitled "Legal tender," which states: "United States coins and currency (including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks and national banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues." This statute means that all United States money as identified above are a valid and legal offer of payment for debts when tendered to a creditor. There is, however, no Federal statute mandating that a private business, a person or an organization must accept currency or coins as for payment for goods and/or services. Private businesses are free to develop their own policies on whether or not to accept cash unless there is a State law which says otherwise. For example, a bus line may prohibit payment of fares in pennies or dollar bills. In addition, movie theaters, convenience stores and gas stations may refuse to accept large denomination currency (usually notes above $20) as a matter of policy. Also, you can buy Mac products from third parties (Fry's, CompUSA, etc.)
They have good reason to limit the number of the phones they sell to a customer, people are making a hefty profit on eBay selling iPhones that don't work. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

If you go to the best buy in lubbock, guess what? There's an apple store there. Knowledge is power. |

wrong. They don't have apple stores, but they are apple authorized retailers.
There is a difference, and their policies can be different, depending on the who runs the best buy. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.

after reading the article I think that they have a perfectly good reason why to limit the iPhone sales. I'm sure they make a hefty amount of money from AT&T so that you have to have their service to use the phone, and if 1/6 of the iPhones are going to unlockers, I think AT&T would be pretty upset with this (and since AT&T is paying Apple, it makes sense that Apple would be upset with this)...
As for not accepting cash, I don't really understand that one as much...I just had a mental image of someone droppin' 30K in cash to buy out a stores stock of iPhones... oh and zetec is right, there is a difference between apple stores and apple authorized retailers (the biggest of which would be inventory, you can't buy everything, ironically, at best buy when it comes to apple products/accessories)... -------------------- ![]() |

And people wonder why the general public hates Apple and thinks they're elitist douchebags I would say that this isn't an entirely accurate statement. I think the general public would equate apple with iPod which (to them) = good. I think the slightly educated computer user believes the above statement.... -------------------- ![]() |

I agree that their marketing campaign is borderline criminal but as a private corporation they can choose to accept only Visa credit cards as payment. It says on that little faq that a business is required to accept cash if there's a state mandate. And Apple does consider their products to be above and beyond so you won't see them sold at a place like walmart where a lot of the other "mass produced" crap is sold.

Yeah, ipods are sold all over the place, not just at Apple stores. Apple computers, on the other hand, are not widely available.

you're required to pay for iphones with a credit card so that they can make a semi half-ass effort at tracking how many iphones you've purchased.
when you purchase an iphone you can still put .01 on a credit card and pay the rest in cash. -------------------- Don't sweat the petty, pet the sweaty.
