Basically, I'm looking to generate revenue from my website to cover things like advertising, hosting, and possibly to make a little bit of money myself (though I'm pretty sure that won't happen).
Obviously, google adsense is an option. For AdSense to be effective, you need to generate a pretty large number of hits (5,000+). Since it only pays out when you hit $100 you will not receive a monthly check unless your site has that many clicks.
What kind of site is it? You may want to play with Text-Link-Ads as it is a monthly rental of space on your site. I'm actually running www.convergyssucks.com. My site's been really slow lately so I set up an ad words account with google. To offset the cost of that, I'm going to set up an ad system (users who donate money will have the ads removed though).
If nothing else, the ads will serve as an incentive for people to donate. But it would still be nice to make a little money off of the ads.
