So. Is there any *noticeable* value added from having 2 hard drives, one exclusively for games, the other for everything else? You know, increases in performance for games and access to junk, 'n such.

If yes, then yes, if no, then no. biggrin.gif

Well, if one hard drive is faster than the other. For example, the western digital Raptor is one of the fastest drives on the market, but it has little capacity (I think there's a 74 GB and a 150 GB model). If you get a faster hard drive, the best thing to do is install windows and performance intense programs on it and put all your data (songs, movies, etc) on the other, slower one.

I second the raptor suggestion... I have the 150GB version and it screams. There's not a ton of disk access with most games though except in between levels and such. So if you want to increase game performance maybe load up on some more RAM (or video card obviously).

if the game streams anything from the cd drive, it might be useful to have the drive and the cd drive on seperate busses. dunno how big of a deal that is with that newfangled SATA though.

Hm, this pleases The Timbo. So you install Windows and games'n'such to the 150? Do you find that's enough space for all your high-performance apps?

Also, while I thought that this would be relatively simple information to look up, I'm having trouble finding out what motherboards are compatible with a certain processor I wanna get. Specifically, the:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6750

Any idea where I might be able to find the information. Google, as it seems, has failed :[

Look for a motherboard that supports the intel 775 CPUs (this is pretty much most of em out there) and then double check that it supports your FSB.

I think that chip has a FSB of 1066, so when reading the description of a motherboard make sure you see 775 and 1066 and you should be fine really.

I'm thinkin of making a new beast of a PC soon as well. I think the small price jump to get the intel 6850 CPU is worth it though !
