yeah this firmware stuff is going to get old quick. it affects both formats, although the BD ones seem to have more problems. these players are basically just small PCs. it's not like your standard DVD player where you just turn it on and it's instantly ready to go. i'm actually waiting a while before i buy a standalone HD DVD player... although the new toshiba players are pretty nice, and getting cheaper.

Do HD and bluray dvd players play regular dvd's too? Im assuming they do, but I havent done my research at all on these things and Im not ready to make the transformation to more expensive media. I dont want to be buying a dying technology though when I purchase DVD's, ya know? I want to know that I will be able to play my dvd's on those new fangled hd and bluray disk players if regular dvds become obsolete.

yeah they both do. i wouldn't recommend to anyone to buy either player yet though. unless you already have an xbox 360 and get the hd-dvd addon.

I guess. I think the change was just them sticking Lite-On drives in them instead, or something. I forget and am not really that interested.
And for the record, I do like Lite-On. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.
