I think telling a person to stop being a kid is kinda stupid... Kids see everything the clearest yet after a certain age they're told to grow up and forget what it's like to have unbridled fun.

What is the point of making level gains so difficult and time consuming? And why is getting to the next level so addictive? These are two questions you need to ask yourself before playing WoW.
The game is engineered to take your money. Everquest was a huge $$$ success, so games that came after followed the same formula. Asheron's Call, Dark Age of Camelot, Anarchy Online, and Starwars Galaxies all have what in common? Long leveling times. These games take advantage of people. They're addictive because, unlike real life or other head to head games, they're more fair in most people's eyes. It isn't about who has the most "skill" or talent. It's about who has the most time. The more work you put into the game, the better your "character" is. And people eat it up! Finally, there is a competitive game out there where simply having more time than your opponent grants you victory over them. You either have better "loot", more wealth, better looking gear, etc. You get a sense of pride, and at what price? $15 a month and a guarantee you'll keep paying that. Because how do you stop? After putting in months and months of solid WORK into the game, to be so much better than all the other players, how do you quit? It's too much to give up. So you're going to keep paying that $15 a month, even if you don't play any more, but rather, just to keep everything you've worked so hard for. Unfortunately, these games are really hurting people. That race to get the best stuff, look the best, and kill the best (which all requires more time than the guy next to you is putting in) is eating away people's lives. They're missing work, not studying, ignoring their loved ones. All so they can compete. All so they can feel some sort of accomplishment in their lives. Which is ironic, because when it comes to 'life', all they're doing is wasting it away while blizzard takes their money. So to make a long story short: Shooting heroin or snorting cocain is probably fun. It's also addictive. And anyone could argue "what do you care what I do for fun in my spare time?" I care because you're hurting yourself and you don't realize it. And so do a lot of other people who have to watch. And it's really, really sad. -------------------- ![]() |

I think there should be a WOW subforum under entertainment. There's 28 pages worth of crap in here. Plus the others can have their own threads to bitch and moan about how badly it sucks without having to derail other perfectly good threads.

Whether it be a game, your work, drugs, sleeping, etc. Too much of anything can become bad. Not every person who plays an online game becomes obsessed with it so that they accomplish nothing else in life. Shooting up heroin or snorting cocaine is a little bit more serious, imo. I don't know too many casual cokeheads or heroin users, but I do know of casual gamers. I agree if a game becomes your life so that you stop going to work and drop out of school and lock yourself in a room over it, then you probably do need some help. Not everyone who plays a game is like this. Those who take it to extremes usually have other issues going on. |

Of the people that play this game the people that are obsessivly playing it are in the definite minority. Real Life comes first for most of the people i play with. And comparing WoW to cocaine or heroin is like comparing cotton to nails |

I played Warcraft III on a battle.net game while a heaping helpin of robotussin was kicking in once. I somehow won the game as I kept zooming in to look at my archers.
In fact I just massed archers cause they were so weird looking to me. I was slobbering onmyself, having the hardest time focusing on my monitor, while this internet chump was totally gettin Robin Hood'd like a mothafucka. -------------------- QUOTE (Lance) now we have some dude from argentina wondering how to fuck dogmeat |
