do words ending in 'x' have an apostrophe (if possessive)?

two people i work with almost got into fisticuffs over this at our weekly meeting; one claiming that names (such as alex or max or fox) have an apostrophe 's,' the other thinking that it would be the name sans the 's'

anyone know?

Apostrophe s.

Even words that end in s end in an apostrophe s unless they're plural.

hmm, i wasn't totally sure, but i'd rather not get my throat ripped out at work

personally, i thought the possessive was just s' (such as "chris' frisbee" instead of "chris's frisbee"), but i really had no idea about the x

I thought it was s' but the 's is still pronounced.

Chris' frisbee is pronounced Chris's but still s'. I don't know. I could be wrong.

i think the ones that end in S just end in s' like "chris' frisbee"

but i've never heard about the x doing the same thing.

i think alex's frisbee looks normal to me.

The quick and dirty, officially:

Add 's to a singular word (even if it ends in -s):
the owner's car
James's hat

Add 's to a plural word that doesn't end in -s:
the children's game
the geese's honking

Add ' to the end of plural nouns that end in -s:
houses' roofs
three friends' letters

So, a word ending in -x would be treated like any other: Alex's car.

That site got me through grad school.

Sorry, I guess maybe I was too cryptic with that link:

The site: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/handouts/grammar/g_apost.html

Actually, I usually started here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/ and use the APA style guide. I suck at figuring out proper style when writing papers.
