Interesting blog post about how showing your receipt at Sams and Costco is a violation of your rights. Opinions? -------------------- Don't sweat the petty, pet the sweaty.

Sounds similar to the Circuit City incident.
Sam's Club has always done this and it isn't so they can see what you are buying (though they do a quick glance), it's so they can mark the receipt as being created at the store. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

it is a little annoying at sams or costco to have to wait in another line just for them to put a mark on your receipt after you've already stood in line.
wouldn't it be just as easy to recreate a receipt and put a black x on it? -------------------- Don't sweat the petty, pet the sweaty.

Probably but then again, I don't know their real reasoning. And, I am not in such a hurry to need to leave the store immediately. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

i always go to sams to buy printer cartridges at the last minute or to buy meat last minute for a party or something, so it seems that every time i'm there i'm in a hurry.

it's stupid and pisses me off. what most of these stores don't reveal is that most of their shrink (losses to stolen merchandise) is due insiders.

it's stupid and pisses me off. what most of these stores don't reveal is that most of their shrink (losses to stolen merchandise) is due insiders. at officemax there are so many people that will walk in and open random packages to "look at" the products plus they stuff things like file folders and organizer refills inside binders/daily planners and try to get out the checkout with the stuff -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. Its merely a lawsuit waiting to happen if they detain you without evidence... but other than that there isn't a law against asking you for your reciept.
If there isn't a law against it, and they don't attempt to confine you if you refuse, theres no real remedy besides just walking past them... Not like you are legally obligated to stop and show them the reciept... most people are just cattle. -------------------- |

Fry's does this too.
I think it's because they don't have the security thing you walk through that knows if you're walking out with something unpurchased. It's just a different security method, and I've never had a problem with it. *shrugs* -------------------- ![]() |

Shrinkage at any store (department, retail, wholesale, whatever) is mainly caused by employees. It's employee theft, shoplifting, and employee/computer error in that order. Shrinkage isn't that bad on a store level, but if you look at it on a grand scheme of things, it can be bad -------------------- ![]() |

It's not a violation of any rights, but it does show that many stores do not care about the customer anymore. All they care about is finding where they're losing money. If you don't like a store because of some policy of theirs, just write a letter explaining why you will not be shopping there anymore. Then NEVER GO BACK. If you go back they won. Find somewhere better to shop. |

is there an echo in here? There's a difference between "most of these stores" and ANY store. Mine refers to any store, yours refers to the wholesale store type of business =P -------------------- ![]() |
