i couldn't give a crap about your pity dogmeat. it sounds like it was really easy to make the changes in your life to lose weight. the physical aspect of losing weight and how to do it is obvious. exercise and change your diet, DUH. but any type of lifestyle change (especially a bad habit) is typically hard for people to get going. i'm sorry if you think otherwise but you're wrong. if it was so easy for people to make lifestyle changes, you wouldn't see any fat people. everyone would get eight hours of sleep a night. nobody would smoke. everyone would bathe and brush their teeth the appropriate amount. everyone would make good grades. etc etc. these are not excuses, just proof that major changes in your life are not always as easy as you're trying to make it out to be.

thank you for proving my point. but since you're obviously going back to the thread from a while back about how you thought black people had less opportunity, i'll bite. everyone still has the same opportunities in their lives. i don't blame anyone but myself for being overweight, just like poor people have no one to blame but themselves for being poor. does that mean it's easy to make the changes in your life necessary to accomplish either of those goals? no. but the ability to make those changes exists.

dogmeat, you still haven't read a word i've said. i'm not saying it's hard to physically lose weight. it's extremely obvious to every person on this planet, that if you eat better and exercise, you will lose weight. like i said above, changing habits is difficult. major props to you that you got 'er done. obviously, at some point in your life you did have bad physical/eating habits or you'd have never been fat in the first place. there is no doubt in my mind i'll git 'er done too. i've done it once before. surely you can agree that old habits die hard.

i guess once you get into that good habit then it would be easy. it's just having the will to get rid of the bad habits and learning the good ones takes will power. if you've got that, you're set.

alright there white flappy skin, I'm saying it takes time. Your dad is an individual case, vast majority of people can't/won't do that, we can't hold up society to most individual cases. If by that standard, then we'd all be millionaires. And no it's not because of the color of their skin, it's because of the way they think. Every situation is different.

All I'm saying when I first brought it up that is, it takes time. Things are not easy as one two three. It may appear easy to you or whoever to lift one self out of poverty, but it takes an incredible amount of determination to do so, and a lot of time as well. Things are not so simple that people are fat because of them selves, and people are poor because they don't want more.

There are social trends, trend shows that the poorer people are more likely to be overweight, though there are many factors involved here. The number of jobs they need to hold in order to make ends meet, this cut down on their cooking time, fast food and ready made foods are just easier and also more affordable. Another factor could be that poorer people are less informed than the wealthier people about nutrition and dietary habits. The reason why they are less informed could be because they don't have the time that figure this out, they don't have the resources to learn about this, or the education level to understand this. I don't know if it's safe to assume that everyone would like to eat healthier or would like to loose weight, but even if there were the case, you can't hold all things equal for wealthier people and poorer people. Because after all wealthier people have more resources at their expenditure, such as more information, more money, many times more time where they can take the time to think about the food they're putting into their bodies. I'm not saying that every rich person is skinny, or every poor person is fat, there will always be outliers and people who don't fit in, but usually that's more rare than not. And I'm not talking about a particular race here. I'm just talking about poor people here. I bring up this example because it is not so racially fueled, and people think better when they're not pissed off.

So coming back to the point of race here, I am not saying it's right to blame other people when you don't even try. But generally things are not that simple. There are many factors that could influence one's decisions and actions, and frankly I don't know what these factors are. Also it's not just black people who blame the "system", plenty of well educated white people blame the "system" for this problem as well.

I've never really been a true conservative... its just that people here are SO left that it was easy to show more conservative view points.

So im not sure what you think i've switched on. I've never blamed poor for BEING poor. I mean don't get me wrong, most don't help their posistion... but its mostly because they CAN'T help themselves (either finacially or educated enough)

But i do still hold that poor are still provided with a good chance to get out of poverty (if they do things right... which goes back to problem one... whether they are educated or fincially stable enough)
