yeah. i think extra care should be taken with people in wheelchairs. at least they didn't throw her to the ground before they killed her though. that makes it better. look we could apparently argue this forever you guys don't think humans should be treated like humans and i do. that's all. No, you can twist words and infer all you want. What you want is for every cop to know the medical/psychological/physical condition of every knife-yielding whack job out there so that they can make the most informed decision possible. Should this woman have been tased? Probably not. Just like I said about the guy yesterday, tasing was probably a little much and the disturbance could have done without it. However, I understand that cops are making decisions in split seconds without knowing much of anything about the people in front of them. If they are threatened or lunged at, they have a split second to decide on a course of action. I'm sorry that we don't have little transmitters in us that tell the cops what we are thinking and what we had for breakfast and when our last crap was, but I don't want that. Pretty soon I predict they'll get rid of tasers and then a cop is going to get killed by someone wielding a knife in a wheelchair. Are you going to feel sorry for that cop? Are you going to think he deserves to be treated like a human and not knifed on his beat? -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

there is one certainty in a knife fight:
motherfuckers are gonna get cut up. cops and anyone somewhat initiated know that the chances of disarming a knife-wielder without injuries (of unknown severity) all around are slim to none. so they shocked her. oh I supposed they could thwack the knife out of her hand with a baton, but then you'd have "woman with broken arm...battered by police". this armchair quarterbacking of police and the military has gotten rifuckindiculous. there are those that do and those that never will. it is the latter that is usually the critic. |

QUOTE if shocking someone with a taser doesn't make them stop flailing knives around then what makes you think spraying them with water would make any difference? death vs no death. the waterhose wasn't serious. but it actually probably would be a viable option. last time i checked though you don't breath out your chest so they probably could have aimed there. and a wheelchair. come on. she wasn't charging at them with axes and blades. i have this image of the cat lady from the Simpsons sitting in a wheelchair mumbling nonsense holding a machete. -------------------- Don't sweat the petty, pet the sweaty.

Beat me to it. You wanna bitch about a woman being tazed and dying, but what if she had been tazed, dropped the weapons and they wheeled her back off to the looney bin? No one hurt, and quickly resolved. Problem is that they could have just as easily tried to stop her other ways and killed/seriously harmed her and you'd still be bitching about police brutality. Is it regrettable she died... of course, but the tazer is MEANT to be a solution that does no physical harm and still lets police take care of an unruly person. -------------------- |

I think murdering a woman in a wheelchair with a taser gun would have been below the conduct of even a Nazi SS Officer.

what should the cops have done in this case? you guys... you don't resist the cops. especially if you have weapons. why does it matter that the lady was in a wheelchair? do the knives not cut and/or kill if wielded from a wheelchair? they used non lethal force in every case we've discussed over the past couple days. what could the cops have done differently with this lady that didn't put them or someone else in danger?? anything that is so public involving the cops gets "investigated" nowadays. read this: QUOTE ...Within an hour of her call to 911, Delafield, a wheelchair-bound woman documented to have mental illness, was dead.
Family attorney Rick Alexander said Delafield's death could have been prevented and that there are four things that jump out at him about the case. "One, she's in a wheelchair. Two, she's schizophrenic. Three, they're using a Taser on a person that's in a wheelchair, and then four is that they tasered her 10 times for a period of like two minutes,".... According to a police report, one of the officers used her Taser gun nine times for a total of 160 seconds and the other officer discharged his Taser gun once for a total of no more than five seconds ....the medical examiner ruled Delafield's death a homicide..... -------------------- ![]() |

read this: How were the cops supposed to know this? Are they supposed to go through people's medical records before they show up on the scene? You know who should really go through medical and psychological records? College admissions and administration. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

How were the cops supposed to know this? Are they supposed to go through people's medical records before they show up on the scene? You know who should really go through medical and psychological records? College admissions and administration. the police were in the house with 2 other family members. somebody could have said something to them, we don't know for sure though. the important thing is that the one lady cop tasered her 10 times within 2 minutes! while the other guy did it once for no more than 5 seconds, which is probably what he was supposed to do. i'm just imagining that lady cop tasering this woman in a wheelchair over and over...2 minutes straight. she def. had enough time to control the situation before doing all that. she could have just tasered her once like the other guy and trying TALKING her into putting her weapons down before tasering her for 2 straight minutes. thats screwed up. -------------------- ![]() |
