so this is kind of complicated

i have a desktop(XP) at my house that is connected to my printer and my wireless network

I also have a laptop(Vista) that is connected to my wireless network

Is it possible for me to print on the printer using my laptop over the wireless network or do i have to physically connect them?

hopefully this makes some sense.

you can right click the printer on your desktop and share it. then go to "add printer" on your laptop and choose network, and you should be able to see it.

lots of times you have to type in the name manually for the printer sharing.

if you go to the sharing properties on the printer, go to "share name" and change it to something easy to type like "printer". then note the name of your computer (rt click my computer -> properties -> computer name, and it's the "full computer name" (not description)

then on your laptop go to add printer, choose network printer, and type in \\computername\printername as where the printer is.

i figured out my problem, evidently in XP the default workgroup name is MSHOME, but in Vista it is WORKGROUP so the computers were on two different workgroups. Once i changed the name the computers started seeing each other.

Thanks for your help Chuck.
