Good God. They have a well known policy that if you are overweight and potentially take up more than one seat you must buy a second seat. 490 pounds.

If I was stuck next to this guy for longer than, oh, 5 minutes, I'd be irate. I paid for my seat, you paid for yours but you're taking up two of them. Doesn't seem very fair.

Also, this has to do with weight issues on planes. Every customer is assumed to be 190 lbs while pilots are doing their weight and balanced check. So without two tickets this guy is getting counted for less than half of what he weighs. They'll end up throwing on a couple of palettes of mail or cargo and the plane will end up crashing because of this fatty. (far fetched example)

490?? I'm 220-230 and I feel uncomfortable in airplane seats.

I agree that his complaint is a little silly, but...

1) They need to apply this restriction consistently. Unless this is a new policy (and I know it's not), he should have been made aware of it before now.

2) Obviously we don't know exactly how it was handled, but it's possible it could've been done more discreetly than it was, so as not to be as embarassing.

I think Southwestern should hire really fat people and also people who dress really sluttily. It's less embarrassing to be told that you're too fat to fly from another fat person than a skinny bitch. He can just be like, look at me, I always have to buy two tickets. Or look at me, you think southwest would let me on the plane dressing like this? Please, that's why I work at the counter.

Can you fit comfortably in the seat without lifting the armrest? Are you fine without a seatbelt extender? If both are answered yes, you should be fine.

well, comfortably no, but yeah i do fit. i've been bigger than i am now and flown w/o probs but not since these news reports. somehow i doubt either of the flights i'm taking will be full (~10AM on a friday to lbb, and ~5pm on a sunday to hou)

my 330 is fairly spread out (for those of you that don't know me, i am pretty tall)

Check-in at the 24 hour window, get an "A" boarding pass, arrive at airport 1.5-2 hours before flight, get in line, board first and take the exit row. wink.gif

chuck,

just tell them Blue said its fine.

besides, keep up the good work and it will be a non-issue. not trying to be a dick, trying to be supportive, but you seemed much smaller a few weeks ago than you were a few years ago.
