heh yeah the concussion was rustling the empty boxes around on the table in front of me.

i'm not sure what i'd want to carry yet. probably some kinda poly .45 since i'd like to keep the ammo similiar to what i've got. the 1911 i have now will probably be on truck duty and the smith for a home defender. if i feel the need to carry before i get a smaller weapon i'll prob just carry the .45.

what all do you like for conceal carry? i saw a lot of the springfield XDs at the show that looked pretty nice. i just can't bring myself to get a glock. the tiny 1911s that a few companies offer with rounded off edges and stuff are friggin awesome, but way expensive. another option i saw was a few differen't companies offering small, snub nose, hammerless .38s. that could work pretty well but seems like kinda a purse gun heheh.

lol purse gun...nah .38s/380s aren't bad. I wouldn't conceal a wheel gun in my pants though.

a concealed .45 is a tough order.

man, I hate most poly guns for anything other than tactical carry. the XD/glock/sig/HK is one thick ass gun to try and conceal. too thick due to high cap.

even the XD "compact" is still too thick. it may be small but you look like you have one of those cassette walkmans under your shirt.

if you want to conceal, go slim. anything double stacked/high cap is going to be too thick IMO.

with a good IWB holster a full size 1911 prints less than a double stack that has a shorter barrel. only because it's slim. I've tested it on people with the XD .45 and the govt 1911. the only time you can even see a 1911 in a IWB holster is when you bend over far, then you can see the handle and the barrel pushing your jeans out like you're carrying a dildo in your pants. but just walking around you're not gonna see it.

ideal is a compact 1911, but yeah they can get pricey. I would spend a hundred bucks for a GOOD IWB holster and call it a day until until you can save for a compact.

then there is the bersa thunder...known mainly for their ppk/380 knock off, they also make a small, light single stack .45. bersa makes a damn good conceal pistol at a light beer price:

my ideal conceal...the paraord ccw...compact frame but with the commander-size 4 1/4" barrel for better cycling and accuracy. notice the trigger and (non)hammer...this is a double action 1911...which is more than tits for concealed carry.

carrying a 1911 cocked and locked can be unnerving, and you never ever carry a normal 1911 in condition 2. it's 1 or 3 only.

that taurus, while uglier than a busted mud fence, is the best bang for the buck on the market IMO.

I just wish to hell they didn't make the rollmarks so atrocious. I'm a sucker for style...and that thing looks like you let a 5yr old have an engraving tool....

big hawg...eh...I think you did well going with a straight up govt model 1911. while I get giddy about all the lil bells and whistles out there...simply put, there is nothing radder than a govt 1911.

My ex-marine buddy carrys an HK .40... i don't envy him.

He says he's used to it by now (and i've never noticed it showing through shirt or anything) but he said it definitely took getting used to the bulk of it.

and he's a marine? the ongoing joke we had about the seals and the USP is, if they run out of ammo at least they can throw that brick of a gun at them...

fair enough question...

safety...and situation dictates. as in all things.

in amarillo/lubbock texas...in the neighborhoods I grew up in (upper middleclass)...I don't.

traveling...always under the seat.

in central dallas, where I've lived for 6 years, I carry. if I'm around ne'erdowells I'm going to be prepared for anything. and if you don't think shit is hairy here, you're not paying attention.

when i was in lubbock and lived in the slightly more ghetto neighborhood i typically kept the revolver within arms reach of my bed and loaded minus the first shot in the wheel. we had plenty o crackheads around there.

here in the suburbs in houston they just stay unloaded up on the closet, as the neighborhood i'm in you can leave all your stuff unlocked and you're safe.

cupcake what's your home setup look like?

I'm on the second floor so there is only one real avenue of approach.

I keep the 686 loaded with .357mag HPs in the top of my closet. in the wee hours it's best just to point and squeeze and not have to fiddle with slides and safeties and shit.

my chick loves that gun and is comfortable with it, and there is a card next to it that states "this gun is always loaded". That's all I keep 'ready for action'.

my 1911 gets unloaded every night and placed on top of the bookshelf in my bedroom. everything else is stored and locked.
