if you're really into gaming/photoshop/etc. and you travel a lot...get the nice laptop.
otherwise, just get whatever. you can get a Dell for $600 now i think. for good ones, Toshiba is good. sony also has good ones. actually, just look at the reviews on cnet.com, those are always great. --------------------  |

I use my desktop as my primary, and a laptop for class.travel purposes. When I got my laptop I spent the little extra to have semi decent hardware for the games I was playing at the time, so that whenever I took a trip home or what not I wouldnt be bored off my ass the entire time (also for those really boring classes at 8 in the morning). But my desktop is my baby (some people love cars, I love computers). It just to hard to beat the power to cost benifet with a laptop, and the ability to upgrade as newer, faster, and more powerful hardware comes out.
