A Question (for you straighties), Larry Craig... Options

Ok, so this is spurred by the whole Larry Craig thing....

how many of you (who are heterosexual) use terms like, "cruising" and know about things like sex codes?

I ask this, because some friends and I are debating about this. Craig seems to use an awful lot of terminology that most straight people who I know don't use so fluidly. In several of the taped conversations he says, "I'm not gay" and "I don't cruise" He apparently has standards because "by God (he) I wouldnt do it in Boise, Idaho"

First of all, I would think most hardcore Republicans (especially those who are hardcore Religion folks) would say, "I am not a homosexual" rather than "I am not gay" in a public speech.

Also, in case anyone has been under a rock the last few days....

Ok, heres a condensation and why it's such a big deal....

Larry Craig (R - Idaho) was arrested back in June for "soliciting sex" in a Minneapolis airport restroom from an undercover cop. Apparently he did all the right things that one does when looking for casual sex....the foot tapping, the trying to brush the cop's feet under the stall wall, the rubbing of his hand under the stall wall. He then tried to deny that was his intent, and even yanked out a business card and was like, "what do you think of THAT?" (trying to get the cop to blow it off).
These cops KNOW the signals...hence why the cop was asking him during the interrogation if Craig remembered if his palm was up or down.....palm up is usually a signal for, "lets get it on" or "go ahead and stick it under the partition"

The reason why gay advocates are going OFF on this topic is because Craig has a VERY long track record of anti-gay legislation and voting, etc. Also, back in 1982 he self-incriminated himself in the page scandal by saying he didn't have sex with any of the 17 year old pages (before ANYONE had been named). Also, a year ago an internet blogger accused him of being gay and said he had SEVERAL accounts from men who had had sex with Craig in public restrooms. SO, thats why there's a big ole stink...cus the man is a HUGE hypocrite, and keeps denying he's gay.

He may not be gay, but he sure does have gay sex!

And I made the comment about MSNBC and Tucker Carlson because he made a comment on air about someone making a pass at him in a restroom and he and a friend went back and beat up the guy...basically condoning gay bashing. And MSNBC didnt take any action on it.

Now, most of the folks who solicit sex in that way are STRAIGHT men. Some gay men do do it, merely for the thrill of anonymous sex, but the majority are straight men. All those signals that Craig did have been in use for YEARS....maybe back to the 70's. So, that means he is well-schooled in the art of bathroom sex. It's almost like the hanky codes.

EDIT: What's funny is how an AWFUL LOT of those calling for his resignation are REPUBLICANS. Maybe those guys need to make sure their shit is spotless before going and preaching morals to the entire country.

i would think "gay" and "homosexual" are both common to say... so him saying gay instead of homo doesn't really seem that big of a deal.

but yeah the terms like "cruising" and whatever the hell these sex codes and signals are... i never heard of that until this story

Well, see for me, in regards to Republicans...."gay" would be the term for those of us sinners who have chosen to live the GAY lifestyle....

"homosexual" would be just a little activity where you've strayed and can be cured. LOL

I hear "gay" and "homosexual" tossed about pretty interchangeably. I know they have different connotations within the GLBT community, but both are used pretty frequently outside.

I was aware of the term "cruising", but I never use it. I didn't know anything about sex codes, though.

Craig sounds like a very bad liar. His excuses are pathetically weak. I highly doubt that the officer would've arrested him if the signs he was giving off were ambiguous.

Basically, you do one of these actions and wait for a response...usually if someone responds similarly, that means they're interested. You don't usually do this in a random place...it's done in places that are KNOWN to be cruisy. These are called "tearooms."

Then there's the old hanky codes....wearing of handkerchiefs of various colors that are to be an undercover way of displaying your preferences (top, bttm, daddy, son, water sports, fisting, blood, etc), and the side you wear it on says which you prefer, giving or receiving.

The cop should have waited a bit longer to REALLY hammer in the last nail into his coffin.
