Have a friend of the family who had a traumatic childhood and isn't going to have children. His wife would like one, but he doesn't so they don't have any. Since his reason is relatated to childhood experience im sure its not that "stupid" of a reason. Maybe a little selfish, but hey, its his right to not have little bratlings

well i guess i wonder why a person would assume that since they had a bad childhood, their kid would as well. i just dont see the correlation.

childfree...labels...but whatever selfish desire you may have, you owe it to the race to breed.

I will keep my genes pure and nordic.

we (anglo-saxons) are slowing down, whereas the arabs and hispanics and blacks are increasing. I don't know about asians...they're probably about like us.

eventually, we'll be diluted or extinct.

but I'm doing my part to ensure that doesn't happen.

that is not racist...it is having pride in your ancestry and race. it seems everyone can have racial pride without reproach except the white man.

fuck that. my ancestors were vikings and barbarians...and yeah, I think that is kickass and don't want it diluted by a totally different culture.

You live in America, in Texas, in the year 2007. You're diluted as fuck.

Don't want kids b/c it reminds them of their childhood. Or they won't be a good parent because their parent wasn't... who knows. I assume its around the lines of a woman who is raped, or a child who was molested, not being comfortable being intimate with anyone else.

Or could be that they just don't want kids... im not sure why thats a crazy idea.

I don't either...I see having a not so perfect chilhood as more motivation to be a rad parent.

oh no i mean that's cool... not that they'd have to have a reason, but the reasoning "i had a bad childhood" just doesn't compute here. sounds like more of an excuse to give the parents who are begging for grandkids or somethin heheh.

Well, the people in the group were saying people give them dirty looks, or rather you're insane looks when they say they don't want kids. I've known people who's had a bad childhood, and don't wish to have kids because this (at least I think that's why), but still I don't understand... I guess it doesn't really make all that big of a difference to me whether if they have kids or not, but I would just like to hear a reasonable argument.

Hartmann: I think the same goes for Japan, their birthrate is really down. Kids wish to spend more time/money on themselves rather than on family/children. My friend was telling me about this movie about a hypothetical situation where all the educated people didn't have any kids while the poor and undereducated had a whole bunch. I don't know the name or the end of this movie, but it seems to reflect the world we live in. Regardless of country, poor and undereducated people tend to have more kids than the wealthier and educated folks. Which if you think about would be better if it were the other way around?

perhaps it's not so much discrimination, but social stigma. People who don't have kids get an omg, what's wrong with you type of look when they say it. That's how groups start.

no groups start because the people are so absolutely insecure with themselves because someone else gave them a look, they have to stamp out a reason why the recieved the look and find others who also recieved the look at huddle up for support.

Well I don't know. People are not exactly open minded to new things. If it's not the norm, then people look at them funny, and those funny looking people like to start groups. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not so weird that these people started the group, it's the concept behind childfree that I don't understand.

You most likely don't understand it the same way i don't understand why people watch american idol, or watch "Extra"... or other celebrity crap. People can try to exlpain it, but i still won't understand it lol.
