What is the best place in town to find some cheap, long network cables. I need at least 100 ft. Also, if any of you have some you would like to get rid of, make me an offer. Thanks for the help.

yeah i ended up just getting a 50 footer at Home Depot. If it isn't long enough I will go back and take the "create your own" route. Why doesn't Lubbock have a Fry's yet, by the way.

I was going to suggest making your own since it's so damn easy.

Yeah I was thinking about doing it but the price ends up being about the same since I am just going to be doing 1 cable right now and I don't have crimping tools or anything.

On a side note, is anyone here on SuddenLink? I am getting horrible upload speeds right now for some reason. I get around a 5mb download and usually less than 100kb upload. I'm not sure what is up. I know SuddenLink is horrible, but it has never been this bad.

Are you wiring a house or something?

And yeah, making your own is the way to go. Just buy a spool and it'll last you a couple of years.

edit: and I think suddenlink throttles based on packet shaping. You torrenting?

Not wiring the house, but running a cable through the attic from roommate's room (modem and router) to my computer in another room. I get poor wireless reception in there.

Not torrenting at the moment. Any way to get around that for future reference?

You could do what I do on campus -- FTP to a mirror server you have set up elsewhere that downloads the torrents for you via HTTP or SSL portal. It still takes longer than normal but it's better than nothing. They block torrents on campus, btw.

It's too bad we don't have any good ISPs in Lubbock. How long til FIOS is ready again?

probably some time. It's slow even here in DFW. They like to target high-income cities first, and I'm sure suddenlink/Lubbock City Council would make it as difficult as possible for verizon.

I have Suddenlink, and Im getting fine upload speeds. Our DL speeds are horrible here though, and I mean horrible. Its hard for me to break above 250k/bs on any DL, and usually me and my housemates sit at 100-120. Im gonna call and bitch suddenlink out, cause we are paying for the 4mb service, and getting a bottom tier DSL speed.

Best way is to get any kind of cord is to make friends with someone who works at best buy or compusa (and I also think Circuit City). They all get shit close to cost. And you would be surprised what the markup is on those things. I bought a $60 DVI cable for $20.

Thanks for the tips. I actually spend of good portion of this morning poking holes in the ceilings and running a cable through our attic with blown-in insulation. I'm not exactly sure what asbestos feels like in your lungs, but it can't be much worse than that.

not that anyone cares, but if you go into compUSA and say you own a business, present them with a fake business name, you can get stuff at a discounted price. but shhh i didnt tell you that
