well i can agree w/the statement that CDs nowadays are probably not as durable as they used to be. but i'd still say the blame for that particular CD not playing belongs to his CD player
 . i.e. the old CD stood up to the scratching but the new one didn't. dumb to blame the CD imo.

Haven't noticed it with store bought cd's. But I have noticed that some cd-r's are more durable than others. Them TDK shits scratch real easily, like kittens.
