They suck.

Not the artists, the actual quality of the compact discs. I bought the new Throwdown album yesterday after waiting for months for its release. As usual, it didn't play in my truck and it ended up getting scratched up after about 5 minutes. I always figured my CD player was fucked, but that isn't the case. It always plays older CD's without problem

Compare the quality of a new CD versus one made in the 90's. You'll find the older one much thicker, more durable, better quality, more scratch resistant, etc. Newer ones are about as shitty as CD-R's.

Maybe the RIAA should focus on getting record labels to put out a well made product before whining like bitches about people "stealing" music.

the music they put out sucks ass and they wonder why people won't buy their shit

i want my music sold to me in digital format so I play it on my computer, burn it to a cd-r to play in my car, stereo, or whatever... i don't want a drm'ed crippled copy protected piece of shit that will only let me play it in one place

fuck the riaa, they need to change their business model or die already

I love having my own personal troll.

Charles, products that are built better are more durable and last longer. That's common knowledge. Take one of those cheapo CD-R and run your finger across it. Odds are you'll end up scratching it, even though your finger isn't even abrasive. Now take a regular CD and do it and all you'll end up with is a smudge. Same thing with cleaning it by wiping it off on your shirt. The CD-R will end up with a bunch of scratches while a regular CD will not. Hell, you can even run your finger nail along the front of a CD-R and scratch the "paint" (for lack of a better term off). All I'm saying is that if I take for example my Soundgarden CD from 1994, which has been tossed around in the truck, been in numerous cases, etc, it's still clean and it still plays. It's a lot more durable than my Throwdown CD which I bought on tuesday. You can even place them side by side and see the older CD is a lot thicker

Seems the music industry, for whatever reason (probably due to file sharing), has cut costs by releasing records using subpar quality compact discs. I can name hundreds of companies who have combatted rising costs, higher taxes, etc etc by cutting costs and releasing flimsy, poorly constructed products.

because CD-R's do not have a protective layer on them because it inhibits them from being burned on. CD's you buy in stores have that layer on them. So of course youll be able to scratch a CD-R easier

so bascially you're saying your CD player scratches discs, but that your old CD plays better because it can handle more scratching. get a new CD player dude.

Yes my truck CD player is a piece of shit. That isn't the point.

It skips on my computer CD Rom drive and that works completely fine.

My point is a lot of CD's seem to be of subpar shit quality.
