The whole point our system of government is to make things hard to pass as law. Its the ultimate minority protector on paper because at any point in the process someone can prevent something from becoming law (president, and the two congressional branches having equal power all can fight each other).

So the "illusion of choice" is kind of the point in a way (for good and bad reasons).

However, the problem today is that republicans or democrats = same shit, different ass hole.

Well yeah, checks and balances and all that fun stuff. I agree that we don't want them getting TOO runaway with legislation. It just seems to me that the only stuff they agree on (and thus nearly the only stuff that gets passed) is stupid shit.
