welfare in this country is for the most part a sham and a way to suck generations into poverty. you cant survive on welfare and little child support payments - which again most men dont pay ESPECIALLY in the lower income bracket which i think would be hit the hardest with this. thats why i first said it smelled a little racist

welfare is a disgustingly misused non-entitlement for lazy americans.

if there are no jobs and you have no money, you move your ass somewhere else. how many millions of dirt-poor european families did this in the 18-20th centuries? it's the exact same thing and it's easier now than ever. getting "sucked in" is the lamest excuse; it's like saying welfare dependence is caused by peer pressure.

Did I miss something? Did someone get married?

naw, but I'm 27 years old and get the "why aren't you married yet" crap all the time. I also get ridiculed on here for not having a girlfriend at the moment... I don't care I've had my fill of serious relationships. I just wanna bank my cash and get some stuff paid off and get healthy before I go find some poor soul to put up with me for the rest of our lives.

well contrary to popular opinion, I don't consider the success of my life based on me having some cute little wife and twelve kids.

That is actually my goal. A girl I know promised me six, hard to find a 12er.

I get that from the Mormons at work, wondering why I am not married at 25.

Why does everyone keep addressing what this isn't for?

What it's not - it's not a bill that allows the man to push for abortion.

What it is - it's a bill that allows the man to prevent abortion, perhaps because he wants to support and care for the child.

I don't know where yall are picking up on it allowing the father to drop all responsibilities to the child or where the mother gets to sit on her ass eating bonbons while raking in the child support. Maybe I missed that part, and if so, please highlight it for me.

I agree with the principle behind this legislation, but I don't think there's a way to actually legislate this without it being extremely messy. Ideally, both parents should have a say in the fate of the baby one way or the other, but there are so many mitigating factors.

In a perfect world, couples would thoroughly discuss (BEFORE ever having sex) birth control and what will happen if, despite precautions, the woman gets pregnant. I think I must remain content to do that in my own life and not worry about others when they're uncommunicative about these things until the 11th hour.

the stereotype is that men dont pay child support and its a stereotype because its widely true. laws have passed in some states making it criminal to not pay BECAUSE people werent upholding to their end of responsibilities. abortion is already a touchy issue. "a bill that allows the man to prevent abortion, perhaps because he wants to support and care for the child" then if he is the only one that wants the child he should pay for the women's need while pregnant and take custody of the child, raise it and pay for it for the rest of his life and the woman can get away with her 500buck a month support payment. also if he wants to stop the abortion because he indeed wants to support the child they need to be more strict about skipping out on payments and visiting and communicating with the child.

will anything like that ever happen? no because sexism is rampant and also the false idea that all women are meant to be nurturing mothers

Racist jokes might be uncouth, but you laugh because they're based on truth... don't take them as personal attacks! Everyone enjoys them -- so relax!
