The only electoral choice you have in the American "democratic" system is the illusion of choice. Candidates preach the same spinned ambiguous policy for America, claiming that they will bring about prosperity and hope to a nation in its twilight. America is enslaved by the power of the sound byte laced with fear and naive lies. As long as the American two party system is manipulated by third party interests and lobbyists, power will be out of the hands of the American people. That being said, while unions to offer certain benefits to employees such as better wages and working conditions, they also tend to become huge corrupt bureaucracies.

it's not an illusion of choice at all. you choose the people that make the decisions. if you make the wrong choice for that person, it's your own damn fault.

Thank you very much! That's exactly how I feel.

And those three are FANTASTIC public speakers. STFU. Have you ever been able to actually have a one on one convo with them? No. So hush!

You did not read nor comprehend what I posted. There is an illusion of choice because there is no choice.

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

don't bother explaining it, you could drill something into impalas skull with a jackhammer and he still wouldn't get it

if you somehow weave your unrelated point into something semi pro-microsoft he might buy it

You guys just simply don't understand the electoral system I guess. Maybe go back to jr high and pay attention in social studies this time?

democracy != every person in the country votes on every single issue that comes up for legislation.

You need to learn that not everyone agrees with you. It has been and will always be pointless to attempt any semblance of rational conversation with a brick wall.

I don't think that's Spivey's argument. I think he's arguing that the "illusion of choice" is there because the two parties are very similar. I would argue that, while they're not THAT similar, the choice is an illusion because things only get done when the issue is something the two parties agree on; if they're at odds on it, they get deadlocked and nothing gets done one way or the other. This problem is exacerbated in a two-party system because candidates get more or less locked into one set of stances in order to appeal to the broader party base, regardless of how their personal views might differ. There is some fluctuation due to the preferences of their local constituents, but they still usually don't diverge much from the party line.

Right, but the only reason we have the two party system in the first place is because that's how the people themselves vote. There are several other parties and affiliations we have to choose from. It's not an illusion of choice, it's the choice that we as a population make.

heh I just wanted to know if anyone was going to CDA. I'm sorry. :-(

And I'm ok with my Republican brothas. At Texas State, College Democrats and College Republicans have learned to coexist and even throw parties with one another. Maybe San Marcos is the black hole of Texas?

I love San Marcos. I'm just saying that we're one of only a few places where Democrats and Republicans aren't trying to poison each other... with the exception of Rick Green throwing punches at State Representative Patrick Rose in the middle of a church parking lot. He's crazy.
