amd makes pretty good discount/value chips

i had an amd duron back in the day and it was better than an intel p3 and that was intel's main chip

sempron/turion is the equivalent of the intel celeron but doesn't suck total ass like the celeron

i'd have no prob getting one

i actually prefer intel because amd won't support linux drivers for their ati video cards

i have to admit that the sempron is far above the celeron in terms of speed, reliability etc. though

yeah... i was never really a big fan of celeron anyhow. I don't think that's one of the choices with dell notebooks anymore though.

it shows they have:
For the lower end models:
AMD Turion 64x2 Dual-Core TL56, TL50
AMD Turion 64 Mobile MK-36
Mobile AMD Sempron 3500+

And higher end models:
Intel Core 2 Duo T5250, 5450, 7100, 7300, 7500
AMD Turion 64x2 Dual-Core TL-50, 56, 64

I really like the Core 2 duo, just not sure if I want to spend the extra cash to upgrade that far. I probably shouldn't even buy a laptop unless I can spend about $1500 and get a really nice one that will last.

This one doesn't look too bad...

Inspiron 1520
$850
Intel Core 2 Duo 5250 (1.5GHz/667MHz 2MB cache)
15.4" LCD (1280x800) (eh res kinda sucks)
2GB RAM
160GB HD
CDRW/DVD
blah graphics
blah sound
802.11g
1 yr warranty
