Yeah, but they're not doing it to people. The science community even draws a line between people and animals - we can do all kinds of tests on animals that we can't do on people. Why? Because they're value is perceived to be less. Their populations can mature faster than humans, so if we mess up, it's ok, just make another.

I don't think it's fair to compare someone's pet to a random dog on the street either. The pet is often treated as a person, but these fighting dogs are always treated as animals. Beating a pet is like beating a person and pretty sick, but beating an animal is different somehow, even if the dogs are the same species...hell, even from the same litter.

i just think youre wrong. every lab that tests on animals is bound to ethical treatment contracts. you wont find any lab or scientist hanging or electrocuting a dog.

if you want to think of man as the ultimate species and everything else as "lower animals" then wouldnt that include some sort of clause about being the most humane, not treating others like animals? i mean if we are going to be above "animal" behavior ourselves. and because of our position in the earthly society we have a duty and responsibility to these "lower" animals

you watch some animals kill each other, or organize such an event, and suddenly its against the law.

i'm an animal lover too, tried being a vegetarian just couldn't do it, but i don't think that he is such a horrible person because of this. he's not selling drugs to children or anything, which is worse in my opinion.

and if any being ever comes by and knocks us off the top of the foodchain, i wouldn't be surprised if we suddenly became sporting again. we're at the top, we make the rules.

abusing a creature to that extent, even a "lesser" creature is worse than selling drugs. takes a special kind of person. and that kind of person shouldnt be walking free

edit: after reading the entire summance for vick i dont see where it says they have finger prints, it says they took his fingerprints. im assuming with the mountain of evidence they have against the guy they would have already be able to legally attain them to compare to ones found among all the blood in his basement

im including this because of the possibility some people may be so backwoods they are not aware

They took fingerprints because that's what they do to get you on record. They took fingerprints, mugshots and pictures of his tats all to get him on file. They aren't trying to make a case off of his prints. He owns the house, so I don't think they can "bust" him for having his fingerprints in the house. I heard a while back that they had him on video at the fights, but haven't heard any reputable source report it since then.

anyway, dog fighting is sick and sad. torturing animals is indicative of a sick or young mind. some young children rip wings off butterflies or whatnot to figure out what happens. but an adult torturing an animal for sport is whack.
