Those of you who have extensive beer lists, where do you buy your beers?
Also, do you really in-depth taste them, or just drink them and add them to your list? -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I've been drinking all kinds of beer religiously for years...but what is this list you speak of?
if anything, I have a list the data base at the flying saucer keeps...but I quit dealing with that hassle two years ago. you can only add 3 a visit, and you have to remember to print all that out. however, if you are into that stuff, it might be worth looking into. yesterday had maredsous 8, and 3 spaten frankensomething hefe weisen. I in-depth taste them the first time I ever have a new one. after that, it's just for enjoyment. |

I am talking about some of the lists that posters on here keep as their personal record/journal of what beers they've tried.

I'm probably the only one that makes it public? It's a list I keep for myself, and for those interested you can take a gander. There's other people out there who are younger than I am, have tried more beers than I have, and know more about beer than I do. It's not a contest, just a serious hobby.
Those of you who have extensive beer lists, where do you buy your beers? After graduation, I moved to CO. More breweries per capita than any other state. They also has fewer retarded alcohol laws, so the amount of beers that come into CO liquor stores is at least 2-3x of what's available in TX. Also have my parents, sister, and friends get me rare beers when they're overseas or out of state. Done beer trades with people online and got a friend who signed me up for Michael Jackson's Rare Beer Club. Also, do you really in-depth taste them, or just drink them and add them to your list? For the most part I try to. ![]() This is what one of my kitchen cabinets looks like right now. The top shelf hardly ever used. Mainly for parties and just to add to my collection. The middle shelf is what I use the most. Belgian style glassware. Tulips with laser etching on the bottom of the glass for bubbles to form and release aroma. So for the beers I purchase, I'll pull them out of the fridge 10-15 minutes before I drink so it can warm up a bit. If you drink a beer extremely cold, it numbs the taste buds, and you can hardly taste it. Case and point, take your BMC(bud/miller/coors). Always served ice cold, because if you've ever had a warmed up BMC, it tastes like shit. If I'm doing a tasting, I'll never have more than 3. A few more afterwards and your senses are shot from all the tasting, and the alcohol dulls the senses. When I'm at a beer bar or breweries, if they happen to freeze their glassware or keep them submerged in ice, I'll ask for it in a warm glass. Obviously I don't have control if they serve their beers in a standard conical pint glass, but it's very rare for me to get drunk(unless I'm at a beer festival, then all bets are off. When it comes to beer festivals, and they have dozens of beers, I will taste the ones I've haven't had or ones that are especially good first. Then I'll go around and just hit up the good ones and still go on. I may add them to the list, depending on how drunk I get. Now, when you're at something like the GABF, when there's like 1,600+ beers on tap, it's very hard to keep track of, but I'll try for the first hour of drinking. Then after that I usually don't care. I've probably had a few dozen more than I've listed, but I don't remember/didn't bother to keep track of what they were. Anything else? -------------------- Beers that I have had, updated July 5th, 2009: 1,548

dauss, I wasn't calling you out or anything... Actually, you and schwab both have public lists but I was looking for everyone who tastes beer.
I have been to about 30 breweries, that's why I asked. I always ask for a warm glass as well. I usually taste 3-5 depending on the place. Sometimes I will do the sampler glasses and if I like a few of them I'll order them. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |
