Microsoft Office 2007
The TTU IT Division announces the availability of
Microsoft Office 2007 to the TTU campus
community starting on Wednesday, July 25, 2007.

With the release of Microsoft Office 2007, a new
set of standard file formats has been released for
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Customers using
earlier versions of Microsoft Office (2003, XP) will
not be able to open, edit, save, or create files using
the new file formats without the installation of a
compatibility pack provided by Microsoft.
Additionally, Office 2007 users have the option to
save their files in formats supported by previous
versions of Microsoft Office. Additional information
about the new file formats and the Compatibility
Pack are provided by Microsoft at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-
us/products/HA101686761033.aspx.

Microsoft Office 2007 may be downloaded at
http://eraider.ttu.edu or purchased for a nominal
charge in the ATLC (located in the west basement
of the University Library building). Note that our
contract only authorizes distribution media for the
Microsoft Office Professional Plus suite. The
Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise suite that adds
MS One Note (digital organization application) and
MS Groove (team collaboration application) is
available via secure download on the eRaider Web
site. For detailed information on TTU’s support of
Office 2007, please visit IT Help Central’s Office
2007 information page at
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/helpcentral/office_2007/
or call (806)742-HELP (4357).

Microsoft Vista
For the last eight months, the TTU IT Division has
been working diligently to prepare for distribution
of Microsoft Vista. We appreciate your patience
as we continue to work with Microsoft to resolve
issues concerning software compatibility and
product activation. At this time, several serious
hardware and software compatibility issues still
exist. Currently, we anticipate Vista will be
available late Fall 2007. If you have any questions,
please visit the Vista Web site at
http://www.depts.ttu.edu/helpcentral/vista/ or
contact IT Help Central at (806) 742-HELP.

I'll be downloading copies of each, but won't be using either. I already have my own legit version of Vista, but no hardware that really would make me want to use it. All my hardware is outta date, and I'm getting a 360 and swapping out my Treo 700WX for a HTC Mogul this fall, so I'm at least $2K away from a new PC.

WAIT. I'm not finished.

WM6 is really just going to be a perk, everything I've heard about it is that it's more or less just WM5.2 -- not even 5.5. There's very little aside from a slight visual upgrade, a few UI tweaks and integrated (although at this point still unnessecary) WM Update.

Really I want it for the full size screen, the freaking sweet crackberry-style jogwheel, faster CPU than the Treo, built-in WIFI, AD2P, the crapload (relatively speaking) of onboard RAM/ROM, and such.

It's basically the 6800.

I'm so sick of Palm's refusal to support their WM products that I'm switching over to HTC, the company that loves their WM users.

well the thing that's nice for WM6 is that bluetooth voice dialing is included (aka MS voice command instead of that shitty one that comes with WM5)
