So I've been doing this for a while and figured some of you probably do it to but if it gets done enough, maybe we can stop direct mailings.
I hate getting mail from the credit card companies. So, when it comes, I take everything out of the envelope, remove all information about me (shred the application), including barcodes. Then I put the junk that is useless (rates, and information sheet) back in the given pre-paid envelope and it goes in a stack on my desk. About once every few weeks I take the stack to the mailbox and voila, my war with the credit card companies commences. You can also add heavier things to it so that the rate goes up. The bulk rate for mail is around $.60 per envelope. Add in costs for equipment to open the envelopes, process them, and any labor and I would figure it goes from $1-2 per envelope... So if you get bored on a Saturday, it's one way to have some fun. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

heheh cool
not that this has anything to do with anything, it just reminded me of general annoyances in life. the national do not call list works big time. http://www.donotcall.gov if you get lots of annoying telemarketer calls add your number to the list, within one month poof 99% of the calls are gone (by law companies are required to comply). |

I've heard about people doing that, but never have myself. I only get a credit card offer once every 3 or 4 months, though, so it's no biggie. Getting my name removed from the lists that the credit bureaus sell reduced such mailings dramatically.
What DOES bug the crap out of me is getting coupon/advertising junk in my mailbox 2-3 times a week. I get more of that crap than real mail. I need to look further into getting my address removed from those lists and talk to my postal carrier about not delivering that crap... Edit: You can opt out of credit card mailing lists by calling 1-888-5-OPTOUT or at https://www.optoutprescreen.com This post has been edited by Spectatrix: Jul 9 2007, 03:01 PM -------------------- |

How do I get my named removed from the credit bureau's list? I have two credit cards, a company one and a personal that I am required to have.
The only thing I like getting in the mail is the sales paper for the grocery store... -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

I edited my post to add that info. It removes you from the lists that Experian, TransUnion, Equifax, and Innovis distribute/sell.

i personally don't mind the credit card offers, every now and then there really is a good offer. i got an american express card from one of their offer letters. did a $4,000 balance transfer, 2% APR for the life of the balance. but yeah it would be funny to mail lots of them back.

Because your credit information is filed primarily by SSN... same reason you have to include it when requesting your credit report.
