Any firewalls on the system? You might try disabling them to rule that out.

Also, try this command:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

Also, try logging out of AIM. Can you log back in?

look up your manufacturer's site and see if there's any updated drivers.

also try re-installing your wireless network drivers (go to device manager, find the wireless adapter, right click and click uninstall. then reboot

AIM still works

as far as driver updates, dell had a BIOS update, and did that, but it did nothing

I did a system restore to about a month ago, updated everything as far as virus, ad protection, etc, and all the updates I could find, IE works currently but firefox is still down....I really have no idea how long IE is gonna be running though....dont know if that tells you anything about what could be causing it

well I hate to say it but if you have your windows disc, your best bet is to do a clean install. i know that's drastic for some people, but it will usually work.

the only firewall that there is, is the windows one....its been turned off and on and off, trying different things, and all the programs are on the exemptions list....so currently its been turned off.

if you do it make sure you do it clean. i.e. reformat completely (some people just "reinstall" and that usually wont change much)

did you ever resolve this?

this is happening to me now (on a wired connection), and it is also happening on another computer in my house (which is on a wireless connection). I don't think it's any kind of specific computer settings messing it up, as I can vpn to my work connection and everything works fine. what brand/model router do you have?

and apparently the under water story was a cover up of their dumbass mistake in cutting a major fiber line.
