Wow, really sad.
When I graduated high school there were some sophomore girls who were going to San Marcos to visit the brother of one of them. They were on I-10 when the driver fell asleep at the wheel and the car they were in went across the median and hit an 18-wheeler head on. Amazingly, they all survived. All had pretty bad injuries but have since recovered. When paramedics reached the accident they ignored one girl because they thought she was dead, she had been thrown through the car and into the semi. This news story stinks of the typical shit the media feeds us to make us unsafe and sympathetic. Front page of all the news places because 5 cheerleaders die in a wreck (they all just graduated, aren't they "former" cheerleaders?). They want America to think "Omg, those could have been my kids!" Don't get me wrong, I feel bad for the families and everything, but I can't find anything in the stories I've read about it if the trucker that they hit head on is okay, so what does that tell you?
