so what would you propose to do to determine which businesses are catering to/hiring illegals? how would you "shut them down"? What do you do for all of the legal citizens who used to work at the business you just shut down? What do you tell the legal citizens of this country when the economy starts to plummet because businesses are being shut down and workers are being deported?

this is the only type of thing that keep me from saying i'm a libertarian. i like the simplistic views, but there's never any practical solutions or policy. i would agree with you that getting tough on illegals would be good, but shutting down every business that knowingly caters to or hires illegals is simply not possible or practical.

Handle it just like other businesses who break rules: hefty fines. If they continue to break the law, shut them down. What was that bar that had a problem with serving alcohol to minors and people who were clearly over the legal limit? The Spoon maybe? TABC started handing out fines and eventually stripped their liquor license because they refused to comply with state laws. Trust me, if a business' bottom line starts taking a serious financial hit, they tend to shape up pretty quickly.

In no particular order (except #1):

1. Abolish birthright citizenship.
2. Require that banks check SSN before opening new accounts.
3. Deport any illegal (and their illegal families, if applicable) if they come to light due to criminal activity or other means.
4. Kick the asses of states that are granting driver's licenses to illegals.
5. Don't go on some major business-busting spree, but do deport illegal employees if they're investigated due to some reasonable suspicion and are found to be illegal immigrants. If the business was in the know about their legal status (as opposed to the employee providing false, legitimate-looking documentation), fine 'em. Shut 'em down if they have repeat violations.
6. Make it easier/faster for foreigners to immigrate legally, assuming they pass criminal checks and such.

I like all of these except 6...I don't want to make it easier and I sure as hell don't want it to happen faster.

Well my rationale there is that making legal immigration easier will curtail illegal immigration and then at least we have folks paying taxes rather than draining the system. *shrugs*

I got no problem with fines, or an escalation on multiple offenses. I was just asking how you could go immediately shut down every company out there that has illegal employees. It cannot be done and should not be done.

My main idea is if they're here, and they work, and don't commit crimes, leave em be. Let them have a license to drive, but no social security. Lets get some biometric or RF identification that's harder to duplicate. Most of all, we need to identify the countries where we have the most immigration, and establish places people can go to begin the process of getting the proper ID and paperwork to enter the United States legally. Last of all, build a F'n wall! None of this will work until we secure our borders and prevent illegals from getting here in the first place.

people are hugely mislead by the "expense" of illegals. the regular uninsured cost way more than illegals in medical care because they dont go to hospitals. theres a whole bunch of investigative reports about that.

You've obviously never been to a Houston hospital... Don't break your leg here, it won't get set for about 12-13 hours depending on where you're at in the city.

At the hospitals where care is free or taken care of by the public, the lines are out the door constantly. Mostly people who don't have insurance and are illegal immigrants. Just walk up and ask, they'll tell you.

Yes, some illegals come to this country for work, but I think that has slowly changed over the years and more and more of them are coming here to take advantage of the welfare system.
