Anyone getting one or know anyone who's getting one? People are putting them up for $25,000 starting bid on ebay. It's actually kinda funny to see all these professional looking people waiting in line for a cellphone.

Who the fuck wants an iPhone? Here's a list of stuff it DOESN'T HAVE.
1. Songs as Ringtones 2. Games 3. Any flash support 4. Instant Messaging 5. Picture messages (MMS) 6. Video recording 7. Voice recognition or voice dialing 8. Wireless Bluetooth Stereo Streaming (A2DP) 9. One-size-fits-all headset jack (May have to buy an adapter for certain headphones) 10. 3G (EV-DO/HSDPA) 11. GPS 12. A real keyboard 13. Removable battery 14. Expandable Storage 15. Direct iTunes Music Store Access (Over Wi-Fi or EDGE) http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/apple/what-the-...have-272571.php |

Yeah, but it's Apple, which means it's trendy, which means people will buy it even if it's not remotely the best product of its kind on the market. Exactly. Apple and the iPhone release is analogous to Sony and the PS3. Sony announced that they could release a total piece of shit that doesn't even play games, call it a PS3, and still sell millions because of fanbois. Apple is releasing a steaming pile of shit and all the fanbois are going crazy over it. Same scenario, different company/product. |

It's just because they're a lot better at marketing than they are at designing, I think. The ability to see full format web pages seems pretty awesome, but what's the point if you're not on 3G. Also, I have fat fingers, so you're trying to tell me I'm going to type out full emails on a tiny on-screen keyboard? I have the cingular 8525, and I like the sliding keyboard because I can type with both thumbs. The iPhone's design makes it seem as though you have to type everything out with one finger. I'll wait until I get my hands on one to pass final judgment, but I'm not excited over it like some. It kind of reminds me of the iPod: There were lots of MP3 players on the market at the time, and some of them were a lot better than iPods (I love my iRiver and the ability to drag and drop songs or data into FOLDERS) but iPods came out and were stripped down, defective models. But they sold like crazy because they were easy to use for people who didn't know what an MP3 player was, and they had a tremendous amount of advertisement behind them compared to other brands. -------------------- LANCE IS PRO-CENSORSHIP! This video on the NYT website is actually a pretty good indicator of what it will look like in a regular user's hands: http://video.on.nytimes.com/index.jsp?fr_s...f3940afb8a3f7c8 -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

punk bitches make you accept their cookie to view a video... no thanks.
what i mean though, is how is the thing going to determine which way you're looking at it? it's obvious if you're holding it at a 90 to the ground, but if it's flat on a table, how will it know which way to rotate the screen? |

As far as getting an iPhone, it looks cool but the fact that the camera doesn't have a zoom (basic phones with cameras do), you can't send picture messages, and that it uses the EDGE network are big negatives for me.
Usually, I use my Palm when I need the internet in places that don't have WiFi or I don't want to get out my laptop. So if I am in a cab and need to check-in for a flight, I use my Palm. This could be a painful process on the iPhone. As AT&T moves away from EDGE and starts upgrading their network and the phone gets revised, I may buy one. The simple fact is, it's a revolutionary phone. The touchscreen, the keyboard, and the sensors make it that and soon we'll see other devices using the iPhone as a benchmark. So, whether you like it or not, we'll soon see "clones" of it. Lance, I wholeheartedly agree with you about some of the issues, but for one, only a few people have played with the keyboard, and all of their reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. Also, the expandable storage? Do you really need more than 8GB? What are you going to be doing on the phone, writing a novel? Apple has actually said that there are features it has not released yet, some of which may include songs as ringtones. Guess we won't know till Friday. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |

Watch the video I posted and new video posted by Apple, both show people using both thumbs to type. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |
