A leading council of the nation's largest doctors' group wants to have this behavior officially classified as a psychiatric disorder, to raise awareness and enable sufferers to get insurance coverage for treatment.

Overuse most often occurs with online role-playing games involving multiple players, the report says. Blizzard Entertainment's teen-rated, monster-killing World of Warcraft is among the most popular. A company spokesman declined to comment on whether the games can cause addiction.

The telltale signs are ominous: teens holing up in their rooms, ignoring friends, family, even food and a shower, while grades plummet and belligerence soars.

yeah teenage kids always have lots of friends, treat their family well, shower often, and get good grades if they don't play video games...

can you get 'addicted' to video games? well yeah, just like you can get addicted to TV, movies, stamp collecting, alcholol, drugs, sex, etc.

psychologists come up with this bullshit so they can make more money. as soon as something becomes a diagnosable problem they can bank off of it. which is why we have bullshit like bullimia, anorexia, etc. the doc makes a lot more money if you bring your skinny daughter in and he says, 'just tell the bitch she's pretty and give her some fried chicken' vs 'omg we have diagnosed her as anorexic she needs to come back for lots of sessions which last fifteen minutes and cost $500 each'.

moral of the story: if you dont want the kid playin WoW for 12 hours a day... don't f'n let him!

further pussification of america
