So long story short...this idiot was messing with my digital camera and formatted my SD memory card. I'm out of the country and had a lot of good pics...does anyone know of a program that could retrieve lost data from a SD card that's probably been formatted? I figure it's a long shot but I might as well ask.

Doesn't the camera double as a USB card reader when you plug it in with the USB cable?

i thought so too, but apparently not. and i'm using windows xp. its even more frustrating dealing with it in spanish, because i dont know a lot of the technical computer vocabulary associated with device properties, etc.

At Fry's you can get a memory card reader that will mount your card as a disk device... don't know if you can find something like it in an electronics store in Mexico though.

Also, I posted a link to some software to retrieve deleted files in Epic's thread asking for similar help. I use it on my hard drives but I'm pretty sure it should also work on a memory card.

yeah, i think i can recover it as long as it can be recognized as a removable disk.

btw... do you guys think i should keep taking more pictures or just not mess with it until i can recover the lost ones?

If you want to recover the pictures then don't use that memory card. All deleting the pics did was erase the file pointers to the pics. The pics are still there but the space they're in is seen as free space. If you take more pics they'll overwrite the ones you want to retrieve

oh believe me, i havent been this pissed in awhile, so theres no way.

im in mexico traveling with a friend, and she was taking pictures at a club with these guys from argentina (training for the olympics or something). these guys were so stupid they asked "is that a camera?" they didnt know how to use it or anything. at this point i didnt know what was going on. i was letting her use it every once in awhile while i was talkin to other people. so all of a sudden shes like "i put it on the table for 5 seconds and it was gone, i swear." we found out the argentinians took it bc another friend called them. they knew it was expensive so yeah.... we got it back but when i turned it on there were no images. they were probably screwing around and just pressing buttons and formatted it. what fucksticks.

never again.
