lol "a winsock problem which is affecting your ability to go to webpages by Domain name" do you have any clue what you're talking about? that's called DNS bud.

schwab, go to start->run, type in cmd and hit enter. then type cd\ and hit enter. then type ipconfig /all >> output.txt and hit enter. you should now have a text file in your c:\ root called "output.txt". open it up in notepad and paste it here.

i dont want to sound like an idiot, but were is c:\root....i cannot find that and its not on my c drive

looks like some problem with it trying to use IPv6. go to control panel->administrative tools -> services, right click on "IP Helper" and go to properties. select "disabled" from the startup type dropdown list, and stop the service if it's already running. then restart the comp and give it a shot.

somethin has to be hosed with your connection set up. open up IE, go tools->internet options->conections tab and read off whats in the box (if anything). also click "LAN Settings" and check the "Automatically detect settings" if it's not checked. if it wasnt checked, close IE and try a web page. when you're testing, try a web page you haven't gone to.

two more commands to try in the cmd prompt:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

also

ipconfig /flushdns

they're not IE only settings. you can also get to them from the control panel. they help you set up proxy services if your ISP requires them, as well connect to other networks. sometimes you have to set this up or you wont see any pages from anywhere. again it depends on your ISP.
