I am not sure how many of you have been keeping up with what is going on in Gaza but I find it interesting that the Palestinians say they are peaceful (a good number are) but they cannot have peace amongst themselves. How do they expect to live in harmony with the Israelis like they say they want to if they fight amongst themselves (and it's not even about land)?

We are dealing with a client in the Middle East and they are hard to deal with. The culture does not want to negotiate unless it benefits them. So, we go in, we tell them a price, they try to haggle, but we can't give. If we give in, they continue to haggle and it could continue indefinitely so we stick to our price. This is how everything is over there. They want globalization, well, that requires them to give a little when it comes to customs and business practices and the same can be said about the way they handle their politics.

you, in your experience of going over there, and I know damn well no one in that region of the world is a peaceful people.

except the bedouins.

the only way to govern those people and ensure peace is by being a heavy-handed, darth vaderesque dictator like saddam. sad, but true.

sigh

Can you frickin read? Saddam wasn't peaceful, who said that? He kept the peace in his country by being Vader.

There was no in-fighting, no rebellions, etc. Why? Because the only thing these people understand is the heavy hand.

As Iraq has evidenced, they sure as hell do not comprehend peaceful freedom.

This isn't an Iraq thread, so don't turn it into one.

interpret it as in order for them to have peace that need someone scaring them into having it

and saddam was good at that

well I guess we all have different interpretations of the word "peace". I understand what cupcake was saying, that there wasn't as much fighting within the country. but that doesn't mean there was peace, it just means the citizens were submissive and rather than fighting the government they would get executed. The other problem is that, while the country might have been "safer", they sure still invaded another country. Iran is currently in similiar situation and are most definitely not peaceful. I have no problem w/the "rule with an iron fist" philosophy, but it's not the solution to peace when you're invading other countries in the region.

I honestly think that Iran was more of a problem than Iraq. It seems we attacked the lesser evil.
