So it looks like the Cotton Kings will not be playing in Lubbock anymore. They are looking at San Angelo and a couple other cities. The city refuses to negotiate with them.
Why does the city want to run off the only minor league franchise that has been in Lubbock consistently? Wouldn't they want to keep the team in town? Every time I hear something about Lubbock its always negative, things like this don't help it all. Plus if the Cotton Kings leave then we lose the only ice facility in Lubbock. Unless the club team raises enough money to pay for ice upkeep they will probably screwed, it sucks that they are affected by the council's stupidity. http://www.lubbockonline.com/updates/update3.shtml |

I really liked the rec league hockey program they had there. And there is no way in hell the TTU club team is gonna be able to raise enough money to get their own ice, the last two years tech had to bail them outta financial trouble .... last year I was going ot try out for the team then I was told that even if I made the team it would cost me a $3,000 fee up front to play and I was like fuck that shit .... I wanna know why the city wont negotiate with them ... -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

Yeah. This is West Texas. Hockey's not really that big of a deal in these parts.
Football? Definitely! Baseball? Maybe. Basketball? Ehh...I don't think so much. Hockey? LOL. Only people that like hockey moved here from somewhere else. -------------------- Spam? Isn't that something poor people eat?

Lubbock is just greedy, and they never support anything good in the city.
I wouldn't be surprised if Tech relocated to San Angelo too with the recent news of San Angelo State University joining the Tech system. I know that won't happen, but one can dream. |

ASU will be part of our system, one thing we guaranteed them is that they we will not change their name. The biggest reason for us to affiliate with them is to raise our standing with the state. Now that we have another school under our system we can ask for money and we can start to compete will UT and TAMU on systemwide grants for research etc. Also the Ag depts will get access to each others facilities. The new chancellor (Hance) has stated that he wants to profile of Tech academically and possibly make us a flagship institution and this will help us. |

do you also have the figures on the pay for all the colliseum employees, players, and costs of maintance, bills, and building itself? I'm pretty sure the Coliseum is paid off, so they don't have to pay a mortgage or anything. They charge the teams that use the facility for staffing for the events and the teams themselves pay the players salary. Obviously there are some costs that the city faces but theres no way it can be 3.3mil of costs. The bigger picture here though is that the city by not even negotiating with the Cotton Kings is showing any other potential teams that its hard to work with. So this hurts our chance of getting a minor league baseball team or any other professional team. Also the Auditorium (connected to the Coliseum) is barely meeting code and the Coliseum is getting pretty bad. If the council wants to add new facilities downtown they are gonna need a team to play there. Theres no use running off the consistent team in your city. |
