I don't think dogmeat was calling the bow hunter a pussy...he was talking about guys with $5000 rifles shooting a deer at 700yds...

which is dumb. 700yds is a long fuckin shot...

nevermind...I see what you're saying. a REAL man would just grapple the animal...

sitting in a blind and getting a buck is harder than you'd think. I've never done it.

believe it or not, it's easier with a compound bow than a rifle.

and dogmeat, i've never met a successful hunter who sat around in a tree drinking beer. (unless you are one of those pussies that go to the private game reserve..... fucking petting zoos in there....) you don't need that expensive equipment, but people buy it who can afford it, because like every group of people, hunters have their own "fashion" and "style" my grandfather wouldn't even wear camo coveralls or any of the typical gear... he would take his 10 gauge that was almost as old as him, wore flannel and dirty blue jeans, and would nail every pheasant dumb enough to get in reach of him. it's not the expensive equipment that makes a hunter... those guys are just weekend warriors

agreed.

who here that is talking about hunting has actually killed anything weighing more than 300lbs?

I would pay to see someone stumble across a large mule buck or old ass boar and just shoot it by chance. they get big because they are smart and know how to move undetected and avoid you.

If you're in a blind you have to be like a silent statue. they see your bigass tower, they're not stupid...you so much as sniffle and you'll never see anything except maybe some dumbass unwitting young doe that isn't worth it (to me). I'd much rather walk his trails, learn his habits, where he beds and fucks, and patterns of a buck for a couple years then go head out to get him one day that you're feeling "it".

sitting in a blind and getting a buck is harder than you'd think. I've never done it.

you are fucking crazy if you think sitting "silently" in a blind is hard. Christ you're shooting baited deer while sitting there. How much fucking easier does it get? Christ shooting geese from a blind in the ground is even harder than that ...

ok great white hunter...

you obviously have different experience than I.

what bait? I'm sure that does make it easy.

ours is set up atop the ridgeline of a draw that gathers runoff. I guess the occasional runoff is our bait...

catch you on the flip side grizzly adams...

using bait stands is illegal.

you put those out there to get animals to come there more regularly. but they are supposed to be empty when you hunt in the vacinity.

What is the purpose of setting up a blind if you aren't going to bait deer .... ? I mean there are various ways you could discern where deer MIGHT be based on the surroundings (scraped trees, etc) and set your tower up there, but you'd still be taking way more of a gamble with that than you would actually stalking your prey and trying to track them down...

I dunno I guess it could be there are just so many deer in certain parts of texas you don't have to worry about ever finding them, in which case yeah I can see doing this, but hunting up in the mountains is an entirley different animal than it is hunting in texas ....

for the love of god you sound like a lil kid with the questions! biggrin.gif

is this the techsans online hunting school?!

the stand/tower is because it's goddamn texas and it's flat as fuck!!!!!!!!!!!!! you have to be able to see shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

walk around in the buttass flat prarie and see how many deer come frolickin by...

where our land is however is very hilly and rugged so we have the stand up topside of the canyon, then walk around all below.

hence, why I've never bagged anything from a stand. but I have seen quite a few and saw where they were headed.

going out on a limb here...chicken, you're not an avid hunter are you?

game of chance LOL

LOL im not saying it doesn't take skill to take out the animal, etc. jesus

I was merely saying that the size of the animal is chance. You could go were the breeds are inherently bigger, but the animals you actually find (or the tracks you follow) is by chance of what you come across. This kid could simply have come across a small boar and no news, but by chance he found the largest pig.

But yeah, im completely idiotic... size of animal directly corolates to the greatness of the hunter....

*sigh*

when hunting was mandatory for human survival, which was the best hunter? the squirrel clubber or the guy that could bring in a bear that could feed an entire tribe for weeks? getting the biggest game and providing the most is pretty much the basis of hunting... when your meat staple is deer, and you're the guy that keeps bringing in the biggest bucks.... you are the greatest hunter.

congrats on being able to say the 2nd stupidest thing i've heard this week.

um dude, the older they are, the smarter they are. the smarter they are, the more skilled you have to be to get them. old bucks don't get out and feed at the same time and in the same place as a doe, younger bucks, babies...

read between the lines here: they are smarter and more successful at evading the average hunter.

granted there are fluke cases in everything where some dumbass can stumble across the biggest whatever.

but...

this kid didn't find this frickin pig. his dad and uncles did and they let the kid take the shot.

tell you what chicken, head out this season and pick us up a good sized buck since it's a piece of cake.

the majority of first time hunters do not bag very large game. there's a reason for that.
