If it's really Deja Vu, I can't wait to see what evidence the Bush Administration will exaggerate to all hell to support their case.
hehe

Come on, I had to say it!
And I agree with James on this one, word for word.

well the details are slightly different... Iraq simply claimed they had no weapons and weren't building weapons. I suppose they were playing tiddlewinks for the five years they didn't allow weapons inspectors in. anyhow... with Iran, they're claiming they went from 40 centrifuges to 1600, so they can build power plants... so yeah... same shit different day.

and yeah I knew you had to say it tongue.gif

Let's see, 17,000 personnel vs. 350,000 person Iranian Army wink.gif

350,000 vs cruise missles & smart bombs

what did Iraq's army total before we took them down?

How many of those are actual combat forces? You can't occupy a country from the sea or the air or by paperworking them to death :-\

LMAO

that is actually a very valid point though.

I wasn't able to find a breakdown by job. Not sure if that's public information or not. Part of me hopes that it's not.

Also not sure if they classify people in training and DEP as part of those numbers. I know they include people in the academies and ROTC in the numbers, neither of which are deployable. Then there's people with temporary medical conditions that people have preventing them from deploying. Oh hell, I even forgot the instructors that have to stay behind to train the new people. Ugh. What a mess.

active warfighters/combat arms units (infantry, armor, arty) make up a small fraction of the total mil. especially considering they are only in 2 branches out of 5 (I'm sure the coast guard is included in those mil numbers).

Well you are looking at a different population as well. The Iraqis hated Saddam just as much as the U.S. but there are some very staunch supporters of the Ayatollah and the regime in power and they would probably muster as many civilians as they could to fight off any invasion by the "Great Satan"

update today

QUOTE
"If Iran's right to nuclear technology is confirmed, all nations of the world will gather under Iran's political banner. Enemies of Islamic Iran know this, and for this reason they have mobilized," Ahmadinejad said.

The leader said Iran doesn't fear its foes' attempts to thwart its nuclear ambitions.

"The enemy is applying its ultimate capabilities against Islamic Iran, which will be useless," Ahmadinejad said. "With the support of the Iranian nation, we do not fear the enemy's hyperbole and psychological warfare. We are nearing our final goals."

not sounding too good... also doesn't sound like the words of a country who claims it's nuclear program is only for peaceful power production. Heh the democrats may get exactly what they wanted... to pull our troops out of Iraq... 'cept they'll head straight to Iran.

Yeah, I know.

From the article:

Iran and the Taliban had been fierce enemies when the Taliban was in power in Afghanistan, and their apparent collaboration came as a surprise to some in the intelligence community.

Yep...enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Fuck, if only Iraq hadn't been such a damn fiasco...
