You have absolutely NO basis whatsoever to defend any implication that we'll all be speaking Arabic/ruled by an Islamist dictatorship within "x" amount of years. I personally find it to show a lack of any intelligence on the matter. vietnam was a disaster because congress cut military spending right in the middle of it. which...is...what theyre trying to do with iraq right now.

*edit* I didnt read your whole post before I responded so here is more: UMMMMM Thousands of civilians are dying in Iraq.... We cant even count how many have died. Countries surrounding Iraq are taking in refugees, but many are still stuck in Iraq. They cant leave their homes (hell, for that matter stay IN their homes) without a fear of dying. You say that we are saving civilian lives by doing in the way we are doing it? We could have dropped an A-bomb on Iraq when this whole thing started, ended the war right then and there, and less people would have died. Im sorry, but I dont agree with your opinion at all.

there were 25 million military and 41 million civilian casualties in WW2, I seriously hope you're not attempting to say this is proportionate to iraq.

we lost 407,000 american soldiers in WW2 before it's objective was complete. imagine if we'd pulled out (yeah yeah har har) after a couple years and x number of casualties.

edit: and anyhow, most of the civilian casualties in iraq are from the islamic militants, not our troops.

And I know what you're attempting to say: that "giving up" will be a sign of weakness to the enemy. Well we haven't given up in Afghanistan, even though that region could use a surge of trrops given the massive amount of land that needs to be searched for Osama...or, well...I forget: Are we still searching for him or has that aspect of the "War on Terror" also slipped off the radar?

We haven't won nor lost the battle in Iraq. We most certainly haven't lost the greater war on terror (of course, shouldn't the war against terrorism have always existed before Bush Jr.? Meh, I digress...)

I do not think the U.S. would act in anyway "offensive" in such a situation (ie, invading Iran or Syria).

However, if it could be proved (how, I have no idea), it could be detrimental to some of the political movements on either side of the spectrum.

Body of missing U.S. soldier found in river: Iraqi police



HILLA, Iraq (Reuters) - The half-naked body of one of three missing U.S. soldiers was found on Wednesday in the Euphrates River in the town of Mussayab south of Baghdad, police said.

The U.S. military said it was investigating reports that a body had been found in a canal in the area.

Hilla police spokesman Captain Muthanna al-Maamouri said there were bullet wounds to the torso and head of the body, which was wearing U.S. Army-issue pants and boots and had a tattoo on the left arm.

Maamouri said the body had been turned over to U.S. forces.

Thousands of U.S. and Iraqi troops having been scouring farmlands through an area south of Baghdad known as the "triangle of death" since an ambush on May 12 in which four U.S soldiers and an Iraqi interpreter were killed.

Three soldiers were reported missing after the attack. The al Qaeda-led Islamic State in
Iraq has said it abducted them but has given no proof it has them.

A police officer in Mussayab, 60 km (40 miles) south of Baghdad, who declined to be named, said the body had been found after a tip-off from residents.

"The military is investigating reports of a body of a canal but we have no confirmation yet," a U.S. military official in Baghdad said.

General David Petraeus, the commander of U.S. forces in Iraq, said last Friday that he believes at least two of the three missing soldiers are still alive.
