QUOTE
The one-floor campus in Central El Paso, which is part of the El Paso Independent School District, teaches 172 pregnant girls and new mothers. Swelling stomachs stuffed into unbuttoned jeans held together by belts on their last notches are a common sight. So are babies.

QUOTE
Enrolled this semester are one sixth-grader, one seventh-grader, 14 eighth-graders, 43 freshmen, 31 sophomores, 31 juniors and 51 seniors.

Im 22. When I was 17, I could still say the same thing. Two of my friends are 22 and have 3 kids each, each child with a different father.

At one time, this public high school that is right down the street from me had the highest pregnancy rate out of any public high school in the entire United States. I dont know if that is still the case

That's a pretty common urban legend that's used as a scare tactic (same was said at my high school and others, I'm sure), but it obviously doesn't work. Seems more like it increases acceptance of pregnancy than anything else.

Jason's mom teaches at an at-risk school here in FW. She said that for these kids, it's something to be proud of. Guys who find out their girls are pregnant print up and pass out announcements, like it's an accomplishment or something...
