Please tell me that I wasn't the only person that tuned this lady out as soon as she started speaking at the graduation ceremonies? Thankfully I was only obligated to sit through one ceremony as my roommate was graduating, thank God for friends bringing Sudoku and my mp3 player.

I was laughing after the president was done speaking. It was like a huge ego masturbatory session for her. I saw one dude in the grad section put his head in his hands when she quoted MLK.

And yeah. She totally fucked up on the meaning of JFK's quote.

I just want to know what chess has to do with graduation from college and well....life.

I think it wasn't about chess, more so than it had to with her overcoming discimination to become the grandmaster she is.

In her plight to be able to play, she had to brake barriers and defeat challenges. In your plight, you will have to do the same. And if you are unable to do so, you will never become anyone.

A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

I understood the message just fine. If they really wanted people to listen and be engaged with the speaker they should choose something more relevant. Chess is a game. Life is not.

I could argue that chess is/was her life and not just a game.

It is a game. She devoted her life to a game.

Congratulations to her for achieving so much in it.

It doesn't make it any more interesting. In fact, I was turned off before she even began to speak by that massive list of never ending accomplishment.

You sound jealous that she gets to spend her time exclusively on what she enjoys.

Overachievement is nothing to be jealous of.

Some would argue that life is a game.
