correction: They're OLED displays, not LCD. Higher resolution, faster response times, complete field of vision, less power consumption, brighter colors, no need for backlighting (the OLED pretty much gives off it's own light). This is why everyone thinks you are an ass. that said, no fucking way would i ever buy one. the mini-3 key one they sell on thinkgeek, maybe (although that should be wireless) but whatever. I think if it was wireless it would kill the batteries too fast. |

I think if it was wireless it would kill the batteries too fast. thats the thing about OLEDs though, they use even less power than LEDS. They actually stay illuminated nearly without power -- more or less they just switch to an "on" or "off" state and then use the tiniest trickle of power after that. I think that 3 or even 4 AA/AAA's would be keep it going for at least a month or two. The radio transmitter would probably suck up the most power. That being said, I was talking about the mini-3-key one being wireless, not the keyboard. Either would be better though. Maybe they could use UWB. edit: and excuse me for being informative. You don't like it, don't read my posts. There's an ignore function, jackass. Feel free to use it. This post has been edited by zetec: May 15 2007, 12:34 PM -------------------- WAIT. Technically they are LED's, just with Organic (has some carbon) compounds in it. Same concept as cones in our eyes, expect the transmission of photons is in the opposite direction. These things, like most organic compounds, degrade fairly easily. If it wasn't for their short lifespans, these things would be everywhere.

yeah, particularly the blues seem to degrade the quickest, with lifespans of 5-10 years at the absolute most. my girlfriend's phone actually has an OLED screen, and hers (which she's had for about a year and a half) doesn't show as much blue as her sisters (which she just had replaced because she broke her old one; essentially a new phone of the same model).
Wikipedia has a really interesting article on it, I did some research on them for a project in an engineering class last year. -------------------- WAIT. I'm not finished.
