Ok so I'm in the Houston area now, where we have way more options than Lubbock. I've heard about FiOS, and I know some people have discussed it on here, but I don't like that they won't let you run your own www server/mail server/etc. Are there any others out there people have heard of?

I am not even sure you can get FiOS in Houston. I called Verizon and they said they are focusing on Dallas and Austin for right now.

but yeah, if you can get fios in your area, it's pretty much the best you can get. There's pretty much no competition.

And their service kicks ass too, in stark contrast to their cellphone division.

the top tier service gets you five static IP's, but I just use a Dynamic DNS server and non-standard ports (which i'd use anyway) myself.

oh ok... just didnt see that on their site.

I see
http://www22.verizon.com/content/consumerf...+and+prices.htm
5Mbps/2Mbps $39.99
15Mbps/2Mbps $49.99
30Mbps/5Mbps $179.95

just doesn't go into any more detail than that, and in the FAQ says they don't allow you to run your own servers. can you point me to the site for the business or whatever FiOS?

come to think of it, it might be a commercial package, i'm not sure. All I know is one of my friends was uber excited when he found out his roommate/boss was getting the top teir, because he was gonna get 2 of the 5 static IPs.
