Here, I'll put a racial spin on this to stir up some trouble, all theory of course. Cho is an Asian male, the stereotype of an Asian male is that they are "loners", and usually very meek, therefore, shit like this will never happen. That's why when they saw that he seemed to be troubled no one really did too much about it, because what they saw was a pathetic Asian boy, and you know, they never really would do anything about it. Asian Americans have long been viewed as the "model minority". We're good at math, we're good at video games, we play the piano. What we don't do is blow shit up and stir up trouble. This image is one image Asian American societies have been fighting for years. We are normal people like the rest of you. We have emotions, many of us suck at math, we don't all play the piano. And some of us are fuckin' psychos. But people don't worry about it, because we are Asian, by being Asian means that you don't need to worry about this person. And I suspect, that is something that went on in this situation. It's unfortunate that it takes something like this though.

but in this situation you're wrong. the guy did get noticed. they we're scared of him. they did tell him to get help. i don't think it's any different than had it been a white guy with the exact same behavior (which I have seen before). I was a RA in the dorms for 3 years at tech, and I saw extreme loners of every race you could imagine. so don't pull the race card like the black people always do and act like it was some racial reasoning that they didn't do anything else with the guy. there was legally nothing they could do with him.

Probably no one on these boards will understand what I'm about to say, but I'm going to say it anyways.

I feel bad for him. In my opinion, there is a clear line between someone who has a medical mental disorder and someone who snaps and shoots people. This kid was truly mentally ill. People were afraid of him before this ever happened. His classmates would joke about how he was a serial killer. His teachers wanted him out of their classes. No matter how much they tried, nothing could be done to help him because we live in a country where freedom of expression is almost as important as the air we breathe. He was begging to be helped. I feel intensely more sad for his victims, but this is something that could have been prevented (everything can be seen in hindsight). He doesn't have an ounce of facial expression or voice inflection. He sounds crazy. I really do think this is so sad. His family probably has to be in hiding right now. I think there is a clear lesson in this: treat others with kindness. For all we know, it could have taken one person smiling at him to change what happened. Instead people teased him, feared him, and scoffed behind his back.

Since I graduated, I don't read the paper anymore. I can't find it online, so I don't know exactly what was printed.

Here's some stats to mull over. Since 1996, there have been 55 school schootings world wide. 41 have been in the US, which makes it 75%. Out of the other 40, how many involved foreign shooters? Its not the immigrants/aliens/foreigners that you have to worry about.

so you think someone who premeditates the murder of 30 people, kills a couple, then casually goes to the post office, then kills 30 more and kills himself has no mental problems whatsoever? the term insane does not only mean that someone spontaneously loads up twelve guns and goes on a rambo style death march through an elementary school.

nobody is making excuses. just explanations, there's a difference. excuses implies that his actions were justifiable. people want to know why he did it. imho the guy simply couldn't handle the social aspects of high school & college, and allowed built up anger to drive him to the point of insanity. everyone has evil morbid thoughts from time to time, the difference here is between thinking and doing.

You're saying you're ready to ban guns from immigrants totally, as a result of this action. By saying that, you're blaming the crime on the guns, not the person. it opens the door for the anti-gun activists to impose a complete gun ban the next time a home-grown american goes on a shooting spree. luckily, in this case, even the bleeding hearts don't agree with you and have pretty much dropped all the calls for tighter gun control.
