BLACKSBURG, Va. - Long before he snapped, Virginia Tech gunman Cho Seung-Hui was picked on, pushed around and laughed at over his shyness and the strange way he talked when he was a schoolboy in the Washington suburbs, former classmates say. Chris Davids, a Virginia Tech senior who graduated from Westfield High School in Chantilly, Va., with Cho in 2003, recalled that the South Korean immigrant almost never opened his mouth and would ignore attempts to strike up a conversation.

Once, in English class, the teacher had the students read aloud, and when it was Cho's turn, he just looked down in silence, Davids recalled. Finally, after the teacher threatened him with an F for participation, Cho started to read in a strange, deep voice that sounded "like he had something in his mouth," Davids said.

"As soon as he started reading, the whole class started laughing and pointing and saying, `Go back to China,'" Davids said.

I think that Im being misunderstood. More than anything I feel very sad for the families of those who lost their life.

I do think two things though:
1) Too many people do not believe that mental illness is real. Im not talking about ADHD or anything like that. Im talking like the truly mentally ill.

2) Kids these days are beyond cruel. I cant even begin to describe the ridicule that my 14 year old autistic brother goes through on a daily basis at school. Its just sad. I dont think that the students at VT necessarily made fun of him...cuz college students are usually beyond that. I do think that he hit his breaking point in high school, though. Add that to some pre-existing mental illness and well...

He thought that what he did was something completely different than what it was. He thought it was him carrying out some master plan that he was ordained to do when in reality he was needlessly taking lives. I think that him sending those pictures, videos, and writings to NBC wasn't him power tripping off of his actions, but rather him attempting to explain his mission; but in reality all he was doing was rambling. NBC said that most of his 23 page dissertation made absolutely no sense. Clearly he was just a clinically ill person making incoherent ramblings. He didn't have a realistic perspective on life. It was all altered in his mind.

Here, I'll put a racial spin on this to stir up some trouble, all theory of course. Cho is an Asian male, the stereotype of an Asian male is that they are "loners", and usually very meek, therefore, shit like this will never happen. That's why when they saw that he seemed to be troubled no one really did too much about it, because what they saw was a pathetic Asian boy, and you know, they never really would do anything about it. Asian Americans have long been viewed as the "model minority". We're good at math, we're good at video games, we play the piano. What we don't do is blow shit up and stir up trouble. This image is one image Asian American societies have been fighting for years. We are normal people like the rest of you. We have emotions, many of us suck at math, we don't all play the piano. And some of us are fuckin' psychos. But people don't worry about it, because we are Asian, by being Asian means that you don't need to worry about this person. And I suspect, that is something that went on in this situation. It's unfortunate that it takes something like this though.
