Guys, I can't believe you think that Al Sharpton has that much power.
It’s a business. His show, his TV simulcast costs money, and who pays for it, advertisers. After a comment like that, it would make American Express, Sprint, Staples, Proctor and Gamble, GlaxoSmithKline, and General Motors look bad for supporting him. When these corporate giants dropped their advertisements, millions of dollars of revenue was lost. What do you do with a part of a company that isn't making money, you cut the loss. I didn't know who the hell Imus was, I never heard of his show, and I wouldn't have known about what would have happened if it didn't blow up like this. Is this overblown, absolutely, there is definitely more pressing news than some DJ losing his job. -------------------- Beers that I have had, updated July 5th, 2009: 1,548

this story isn't as sad as the one where that business exec lost his job for saying the budget proposal was "niggardly"...
that word has absolutely nothing to do with race... -------------------- "Ah, y'know it's funny, these people they go to sleep, they think everything's fine, everything's good. They wake up the next day and they're on fire."

But that's what freedom of speech is all about...not having consequences for what you say. Because you could say the same thing about places without freedom of speech, like China. Yeah, you CAN (you have the ability) to say whatever you want, but there are consequences (going to prison, being killed). What if you yell out "BOMB" in a crowded area when there is no bomb? There are certain limits to free speech and there will always be things, that if said, could result in negative consequences. You can tell your boss to "fuck off", but he will probably fire you. Same goes for Imus. I do not know if he should have been terminated, but obviously NBC and CBS felt that it was in their best interest to fire him. Hell, he is getting old anyway. -------------------- A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

i dont even know who he is, but after reading the headlines, I think it's absolutley fucking garbage they consider "nappy headed hos" a racial slur.
what the fuck is next, we can't call them black people anymore, we have to start referring to them as "God's Children" or some shit? seriously wtf? "nappy headed ho" is about as much of a NON racial slur as there is. -------------------- I r Ur Gawd!

That article pretty much echoes how I feel. Though I think it's more hypocrisy than the black culture. -------------------- "There is a level of cowardice lower than that of the conformist: that of the fashionable non-conformist." |
