Proof of God through modern day reason

Some favorites:

QUOTE
ARGUMENT FROM MIRACLES (I)
(1) My aunt had cancer.
(2) The doctors gave her all these horrible treatments.
(3) My aunt prayed to God and now she doesn't have cancer.
(4) Therefore, God exists.

QUOTE
ARGUMENT FROM CREATION, a.k.a. ARGUMENT FROM PERSONAL INCREDULITY (I)
(1) If evolution is false, then creationism is true, and therefore God exists.
(2) Evolution can't be true, since I lack the mental capacity to understand it; moreover, to accept its truth would cause me to be uncomfortable.
(3) Therefore, God exists.

QUOTE
ARGUMENT FROM FEAR
(1) If there is no God then we're all going to not exist after we die.
(2) I'm afraid of that. (3) Therefore, God exists.

QUOTE
ARGUMENT FROM THE BIBLE
(1) [arbitrary passage from OT]
(2) [arbitrary passage from NT]
(3) Therefore, God exists.

I stopped reading at 40ish though. It starts to get boring.

Funny and very true

--------------------
A psychotic world we live in. The madmen are in power. How long have we known this? Faced this? And--how many of us do know it? Perhaps if you know you are insane then you are not insane. Or you are becoming sane, finally. Waking up. I suppose only a few are aware of all this. Isolated persons here and there. But the broad masses... what do they think? All these hundreds of thousands in this city, here. Do they imagine that they live in a sane world? Or do they guess, glimpse, the truth...?

the arguement from Creation is based on a secular arguement against Christianity that goes something like this:

1) If Creationism is false, then evolution is true, and therefore God does not exist
(2) Creationism can't be true, since I lack the mental capacity to understand it; moreover, to accept its truth would cause me to be uncomfortable.
(3) Therefore, God does not exist.

So I really do think this is stupid since some of the arguements against the existence of God are just as retarded

Correct, the existence of god can neither be proven or disproven but I find the rationale in these passages to be true. Belief in god is found through coincidental events in a person's life, which could be taken either as miraculous or not.

I never understood why so many fundamentalist Christians had a problem with evolution anyways. Evolution has nothing to do with how life originated. Instead, it has more to with how life has developed over earth's history. Evolution can exist alongside the belief of a deity and not interfere. Unless, a Christian wants to interpret the bible literally which is silly.

Science explains the how and religion/faith explains the why. They CAN be compatible.

There can proof (or disproof) of god's existence, we just haven't found it yet. Just because something hasn't beendone doesn't mean it's impossible.

evolution does counter what the Bible says about Creation. The Bible says the earth was created in seven days. Now, if we take that as seven literal days and in those seven days god created birds, reptiles, breathing things, fish, etc then that would go against the idea that we evolved from apes. On the other hand, a minimalist idea of evolution can co-exist with Creation in that yes, things have changed over time. People are bigger. There are more races. Blah blah blah. Core Creationism and Evolution are not compatible.

and I swear if Griesux or whatever were to correct my spelling, i think I would snap. That, along with the "your mom" jokes is getting old.

How do we know that things didn't evolve in those seven days? If god is so powerful to create the world in seven days, why couldn't he speed up evolution?

Both Creationism and Evolution have their flaws. One requires you to believe in an omnipotent being, the other requires you to believe in happenstance. Well, both require you to believe in happenstance seeing how you have to believe that god existed always, which is just as likely as two atoms combining and making the big bang and all that jazz.

One of them requires faith in a book.
One of them requires faith in logic and reasoning.

One group says the other is false.

Also, would it really matter if someone corrected your spelling Jessica?

I guess it doesnt matter if she corrects MY spelling.... but more just everyone in general. Its just getting a little annoying. We get it. She is spelling bee champion.

Also, "created" implies forming something out of nothing. From my understanding of the Bible, the text was translated specifically with that word because God took nothing and created the something. Now, if birds did not exist and he wanted to create birds, he couldnt use reptiles and add wings because that would be using something to make the birds.

It all depends on if your a bible literalist. Imagine, if you will, explaning something like the idea of an atom to a 2 year old......your gonna dumb it down a bit. You most likely would not go into all details because a 2 year old cannot comprehend them. Now take this idea and say you are an all knowing, omnipresent being (of undisclosed gender), and you've got these things that you guide that are not by any means all knowing, omnipresent beings. One day one of them asks you...how did you make it. Rather than going into all the detail of talking about setting up an ecosystem that allows life to exist and change as needed, or do you use a simple version and compare it to something they know?

In the long run I think that a lot of the bible is biased....but I do think there is a core to it (hence my beliefs) that works on faith in the fact that there is something bigger than us out there. There are all kinds of different names out there for it, but in any case, look at any cultures creation story and you'll get a story about how the world began that relates to that culture. No one is ever going to agree on this stuff...why try? Why not just accept that people dont always think the same (which is why I think its a fantastic thing that we have various religions, and even branches of religions).

More than anything I think people argue this stuff (mostly without thinking) because they feel like a part of them has been threatened, and are afraid of changing their views, because it means that they have had to make a change in thought from what the Hell preaching drunk behind the pulpit in the backwoods tells them to think.

and finally, as far as usage of the word create.....how bout this....what triggered the big bang.....why cant the idea be that instead of God creating everything individually, God created an energy or a force, that would trigger an event, that would start an ever-changing universe?

MORAL ARGUMENT (I)
(1) Person X, a well-known Atheist, was morally inferior to the rest of us.
(2) Therefore, God exists.

I think its funny to read that...knowing that some of the most "Christian" people I've known (willing to help those in need, placing others before themselves, Taking care of sick family members instead of putting them in a home, willing to go the extra mile, etc.) were mostly Athiests....or at the very least Diests

After reading this, I'm reminded of one of my favourite arguments given by Christians about the existence of god.

The argument of infinite regression. It only works with Atheists, though, because if you apply it to the idea of "How did your infinite, all-knowing being come to be", you're just being silly.

Also, God could have created that way. But, we'll play along and say that there's only one definition of create wink.gif
