i like him on law & order, but this isn't the race to be the governor of califonia.

QUOTE
On the issues, Thompson said he:

_Is "pro-life," and believes federal judges should overturn the 1973
Roe v. Wade abortion rights decision as "bad law and bad medical science."

_Opposes gay marriage, but would let states decide whether to allow civil unions. "Marriage is between a man and a woman, and judges shouldn't be allowed to change that."

_Opposes gun control, and praised last week's 2-1 federal appeals decision overturning a long-standing handgun ban. "The court basically said the Constitution means what it says."

_Supports
President Bush's decision to increase troops in
Iraq. "Wars are full of mistakes. You rectify them. I think we are doing that now," he said. "We've got to give it a chance to work."

_Would pardon former White House aide I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby's conviction for perjury and obstruction of justice now, rather than waiting until all his appeals are exhausted.

Well, I think he's the candidate the GOP would be looking for though. McCain, Giuliani, and Romney all take or have taken questionable stances (at least from a GOP perspective) on a lot of issues.

yeah i think supporting bush and pardoning libby are two subjects that the republican party are probably going to want to avoid as the election gets closer.

But I think he's the conservative that the Republicans want. Seriously. You've got McCain, who is so wishy-washy you don't know what side he's on, Giuliani, who might as well be a democrat, and Mitt Romney, who scares the hell out of some people.

I don't agree with Thompson on all his views but he's a pretty hard and fast Republican and I think it's what the party wants right now.

i too thought every thing thats been said in this thread about him would be exactly what republicans want.

BUT

i was driving home from class today and Fred Thompson was substituting for the oldies DJ that the lubbock station plays in the afternoon (obviously a nationally syndicated radio show). in the few minutes between a break of songs he was slamming the government and the current administration. apparently they are way to liberal. hes like a RIDICULOUSLY far right conservative even for conversatives nowadays.
im starting to forget some of the things he said but he mentioned how the current government "can't even protect their secret" something or other. just an example of how he was phrasing everything

the libby pardon is the nail in the coffin. You don't actually TELL people that.

yeah, he's way too conservative. even if republicans are on the same page as him, i doubt they're going to want to support someone with such a "radical," vocal platform.

like zetec said, he should keep his mouth shut about the crazy stuff. too many people are on the fence now after everything the current administration has done, so the republicans are going to have to tread lightly to avoid losing even more support.
